Achieving a strong rank in GATE is often associated with long-term preparation, complete syllabus coverage, and a highly focused study plan. However, not every successful journey follows this ideal path. Roshan Kumar’s achievement of AIR 210 in GATE Computer Science offers a more practical and relatable perspective, where challenges like a late start, initial inconsistency, and even an incomplete syllabus were part of the process.
The support of Physics Wallah played a crucial role in strengthening his concepts and eliminating doubts effectively, making his preparation more dedicated and result-oriented. What sets his journey apart is not perfection, but clarity in decision-making, consistency in effort, and the ability to rely on the right guidance at the right time.

Like many students, Roshan initially aimed for placements. However, he soon realised that preparing for GATE could help him secure better long-term opportunities. This shift in mindset became the foundation of his journey.
"Sir, maine GATE preparation June se start ki thi hum abhi third year me mera plan placement lene ka hi tha lekin mere college me itni achhi companies nahi aa rahi thi:
“Mujhe lag raha tha ki main better college se jaake better placement le sakta hu to maine fir fourth year me start ki apni june se start ki apni preparation"
This clearly shows that his decision was practical. Instead of settling, he chose to aim higher by investing time in GATE preparation, even though he started relatively late.
Initially, things were not very stable, which is something most aspirants can relate to.
"Aur fir sir uske baad around June July me to thoda unstable tha preparation, but August September se maine poora subah se raat tak dedicate karna na start kar diya"
This turning point is important. Once he became serious and dedicated full days to preparation, his progress improved significantly.
Consistency is one of the biggest challenges during preparation. Roshan tackled this by creating a disciplined daily routine, especially by studying in the library.
"Poora time mere college me library hai waha par saare log padhte hai to main bhi subah library jaane lag gaya subah se library shaam tak wapas aata tha"
This shows how the environment can influence habits. Being around other students who were studying helped him stay focused and avoid distractions.
He also noticed a clear improvement in his concentration and consistency.
"Waha pe haan concentration achha ho jata hai, consistency maintain ho jati hai"
This highlights that sometimes, a simple change like choosing the right study space can make a big difference in maintaining regularity.
No journey is perfect, and Roshan also made some mistakes, especially in managing his time effectively across subjects.
"Actually, maine maths ke courses me bahut zyada aise time spend kar diya tha”
“Maine probability calculus aur linear algebra ye teen subjects complete karne me around one and a half months laga diye the"
This shows that over-focusing on a few subjects can affect overall preparation. Time balance is just as important as effort.
He also realised that studying the same topic from multiple sources was not always helpful.
"Maine actually do alag alag faculties ke lecture dekh liye the aur jab maine ye sab dekhe uske baad mujhe realise hua ki ye karne ki zarurat nahi thi"
This is a valuable lesson: more content does not always mean better preparation. Sometimes, it only leads to confusion and wasted time.
Towards the end, he faced another challenge, an incomplete syllabus.
"Actually, mere do subject baaki reh gaye the DBMS aur GATE aptitude poora baaki reh gaya tha lekin main kaafi dar gaya tha us time ki mera syllabus poora nahi ho paya hai abhi"
This reflects a common fear among students. However, despite this, he continued his preparation instead of giving up.
Instead of focusing on quantity, Roshan adopted a smarter approach by attempting limited tests but at the right time.
"Main last ke 15 to 20 days me hi maine seven to eight tests diye the bas"
This shows that strategic preparation matters more than blindly following trends. Even a few well-attempted tests can be effective if combined with proper revision.
Physics Wallah played a major role in Roshan’s success, especially in building strong concepts.
"PW ka hi sabse bada contribution raha agar main kahun to maine saare recorded lectures dekhe the kyunki maine late join kiya tha course to main live classes isliye attend nahi kar paya"
This highlights how even recorded lectures can be highly effective when designed well. Despite joining late, he was able to cover everything properly.
He never felt stuck or confused while studying.
"Matlab saare faculties ne bahut hi achha padhaya tha aur mujhe matlab kabhi bhi kisi bhi point par aisa nahi laga tha ki ye cheez doubt reh gayi"
This shows the strength of clear teaching, when concepts are explained properly, doubts automatically reduce.
One of the most impactful aspects for him was that his doubts were already addressed during lectures.
"Agar main live class me hota to ye cheez pooch leta unhone saare doubts mere poochne se pehle hi clear kar diye the"
This reflects the quality of teaching, where instructors anticipate student doubts and resolve them proactively.
Because of this experience, he confidently recommends Physics Wallah to others.
"mujhse jitne logon ne bhi poocha maine sabko recommend kiya ki aap PW hi join kare GATE preparation ke liye bahut achhe hai"
This recommendation comes from genuine satisfaction and trust in the platform.
Behind every successful student, there is often strong support from family. Roshan also experienced this encouragement.
"Family to khush hai wo bhi expect kar rahe the ki mujhe ek achha college mil jayega mtech ke liye to abhi to sab to bahut khush hai"
This reflects how emotional support can boost confidence and motivation during preparation.
He also received valuable guidance from his elder brother.
"Unhone bhi mujhe bahut guide kiya ki kaise kya padhna chahiye test series leni chahiye aur ye sab"
This shows that the right guidance, whether from family or mentors, can simplify decision-making during preparation.
