How PW Helped Akash Overcome PCM and Secure AIR 19 in IIT JAM 2026 Biotechnology

Securing AIR 19 in IIT JAM 2026 Biotechnology, Akash turned one of his biggest preparation challenges into an area of improvement. As a Biology-focused student, he initially found Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics less comfortable, but he realised that avoiding PCM could affect his overall performance.

Alongside college, he gradually worked on these subjects through PW’s PCM batches, DPPs and PYQs. His preparation was not always perfectly consistent, but daily targets, small rewards and family support helped him keep moving forward. His efforts eventually helped him score 76.67 marks and secure AIR 19.

Akash’s IIT JAM Journey Started With a Focus on Biology

Akash’s preparation for IIT JAM Biotechnology involved balancing his natural interest in Biology with the need to strengthen Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Initially, like many Biology-focused students, he preferred studying Biology. However, he realised that PCM could become a deciding factor in the examination and changed his approach accordingly.

“Initially to main bhi bio padhta tha. Matlab normal si baat hai matlab physics, chemistry, math padhne ka man to nahi karta hai. Biology mein hi jyada maza aata hai, interest aata hai to main bhi pehle bio padhta tha.”

After evaluating the examination pattern, Akash understood that avoiding PCM could affect his overall performance. This made him gradually shift more attention towards the subjects he initially found difficult.

Akash Overcame the PCM Barrier Through Practice

The biggest challenge in his preparation was becoming comfortable with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Akash realised that the initial fear of these subjects was common among Biology students, but consistent practice could make them manageable.

He began by working on Physics and gradually moved towards Chemistry and Mathematics. PYQs played an important role in helping him understand that the questions were often based on familiar concepts and patterns.

“Lekin ek baar agar aap koshish karenge to wo phir hota chala jaata hai. Usmein utni dikkat nahi hoti. Bas shuru mein thoda dar sa lagta hai ki nahi Physics, Chemistry, Math nahi hogi. Phir uske baad usmein bhi utna hi maza aane lagta hai.”

This change in mindset helped him approach PCM as a part of the preparation rather than treating it as a barrier. By repeatedly working with questions, he became more familiar with the type of problems that could appear in the examination.

How PW Helped Akash Strengthen His PCM Preparation

As Akash worked on improving his PCM preparation, PW’s PCM batches became part of his study approach. He found the content useful and followed the classes with DPP practice before moving towards Previous Year Questions.

“Aapke jo PW ke jo PCM ke batches the usmein content kaafi achha tha. Phir maine uske baad wo PCM lagane ke baad maine saari DPP lagai.”

The progression from the PCM content to DPPs and then PYQs helped Akash build familiarity with the subjects step by step. He particularly found PYQs useful because they showed him how concepts were repeatedly tested.

His preparation also helped him recognise that Mathematics did not necessarily require completely unfamiliar approaches. According to Akash, many questions could be approached through concepts and patterns seen earlier in PYQs.

“Agar aap sirf PYQ bhi laga denge, agar aap lecture kar lenge to mostly repeated patterns ke question... aisa nahi ki bahut zyada ekdum new type ka question bana diya gaya ho.”

For Akash, this combination of learning the concepts, practising through DPPs and analysing PYQs helped him become more comfortable with PCM.

Akash Adjusted His Strategy on the IIT JAM Exam Day

Akash’s preparation for PCM became especially relevant when he encountered the actual IIT JAM Biotechnology paper. He felt that Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics had a significant presence in the paper, while Biology was comparatively easier.

Instead of spending excessive time on the easier Biology questions, he tried to complete them quickly and reserve more time for PCM.

“To ye baat thi ki jab Biology ke question easy the to unko kam time dete hue jaldi-jaldi nikalte hue maine koshish ki ki phir Physics, Chemistry, Math pe jyada time diya jaaye. Usi kaaran se main bacha.”

This approach allowed him to use his preparation where he felt it mattered most. His understanding of the paper and his prior PCM practice helped him manage the sections according to their difficulty.

Akash ultimately scored 76.67 marks and secured AIR 19 in IIT JAM 2026 Biotechnology.

Akash Used Daily Targets and Small Rewards to Stay Consistent

Rather than relying only on fixed study hours, Akash used a visual system to track his progress. He maintained a list of chapters and marked them off as he completed them. Seeing the completed targets gradually increased his confidence.

“Mere diwaar pe abhi bhi shayad peeche chipka hua hai wo list bani hui hai. Jismein main daily tick karta jaata tha jaise-jaise mere chapters hote jaate the aur uske baad confidence build-up hota tha.”

He also used small rewards to keep himself motivated during the long preparation period.

“Agar ek-ek chapter complete hota hai to main apne ko reward deta tha. Like agar mera ek unit poora ho gaya Biology ka specifically to main koi movie dekh leta tha uske baad.”

For Akash, these small milestones made the preparation feel more manageable and helped him maintain motivation over a longer period.

Akash’s Approach to Multiple Exams and Preparation Pressure

Alongside IIT JAM, Akash also appeared for other examinations, including TIFR and CUET-PG. He felt that appearing for another examination before IIT JAM gave him a target and added a manageable level of pressure to his preparation.

“To usse aapke upar hai na ek thoda sa stress aata hai. Matlab happy stress jaise good stress main kahunga. Isse aapko thoda sa target milta hai ki haan tab tak complete karna.”

He also considered having multiple examination options useful because it provided an alternative if the primary examination did not go as expected.

This approach gave his preparation additional structure while keeping his main focus on IIT JAM.

Akash’s Advice to Future IIT JAM Aspirants

Looking back at his preparation, Akash believes that consistency matters even when the amount of work completed varies from day to day. He does not expect every day to be equally productive but believes that every day's effort should contribute to the larger preparation journey.

“Har din ek jaisa nahi hota hai. Theek hai? Har din bas lage rehna chahiye. Ek hota hai na hum integration karte hain kisi cheez ka. Agar aap har din thoda bhi kar rahe ho na to wo add hote ja raha hai aapke graph mein.”

His advice is to keep adding to the preparation instead of becoming discouraged by an occasional less productive day. He also highlights the importance of staying connected with parents and sharing the challenges of the journey with them.

Akash’s journey to AIR 19 in IIT JAM 2026 Biotechnology shows how a student can identify a weak area, gradually work on it and build confidence through structured practice. His experience with PW’s PCM content, DPPs and PYQs, combined with consistent effort, helped him approach the PCM-heavy aspects of the examination with greater confidence.
