IIT JAM 2026 AIR 2 Biotechnology Topper Interview

Preparing for IIT JAM Biotechnology while pursuing a graduation degree can be challenging, especially when students have to balance college schedules with self-study, revision, and exam preparation. Rit Vipinbhai Patel’s journey offers a practical look at how he approached this challenge and secured AIR 2 in IIT JAM 2026 Biotechnology.

During his conversation, Rit spoke about managing college alongside preparation, prioritising quality over the number of study hours, and planning his preparation one day at a time. He also shared his thoughts on his future academic and research goals and concluded by expressing his gratitude to the PW faculty.

How Rit Vipinbhai Patel Approached IIT JAM Preparation

Rit was preparing for IIT JAM alongside his BSc Biotechnology, so managing his time was important. Instead of focusing on how many hours he studied, he focused on making the most of the time he had.

When asked about his preparation strategy, Rit explained:

“Mera main focus rehta tha ki matlab main jitne bhi hours padhun wo quality hours ho. Aisa quantity mein matlab main thoda itna believe nahi karta. Quality mein zyada believe karta hoon aisa.”

For Rit, effective preparation was not simply about increasing study hours. He focused on ensuring that the time available for preparation was used meaningfully.

Rit Balanced IIT JAM Preparation With College

Since Rit was in the third year of BSc Biotechnology, he had to divide his time between college and IIT JAM preparation. Rather than following a fixed approach based only on total daily hours, he looked for available time around his college schedule.

He shared:

“Wo thoda mushkil tha matlab matlab aise matlab main plan banata tha ki matlab college ke alawa main matlab mere schedule mein se matlab kahaan time nikal sakta hoon aisa. To us time mein main padhta tha aisa.”

He further explained that after spending around six to seven hours at college, even three to four hours of self-study outside that schedule could make a meaningful difference.

This approach allowed him to continue his preparation without treating college and exam preparation as separate priorities.

Rit’s Daily Planning Kept His Preparation on Track

As Rit progressed through his preparation, he focused on breaking the larger goal into manageable daily targets. His advice to other students was to begin by believing in themselves and then move forward according to a day-by-day plan.

He said:

“Pehle to matlab believe in yourself, matlab udhar se start karna chahiye aur phir matlab aise day-by-day planning ke according jaana chahiye. Aisa matlab bahut zyada bhi nahi sochne ka aur bahut kam bhi nahi sochne ka aisa matlab ek-ek din plan karke phir aage chalte jaane ka aisa, daily target pe.”

Rit advised students to focus on what they needed to complete each day instead of worrying about the entire preparation journey.

Rit’s Gratitude to the PW Faculty

Rit shared his IIT JAM 2026 achievement and preparation journey, and towards the end, he expressed his gratitude to the PW faculty.

After discussing his preparation and achievement, Rit said:

“Thank you so much, thank you. Thank you so much, thank you so much to all the PW faculty.”

His statement reflects his acknowledgement of the faculty who were part of his preparation journey. The interview itself focused primarily on his study approach, time management, daily planning, and mindset rather than detailing specific PW courses or resources.

What Rit Plans to Pursue After IIT JAM 2026

Securing AIR 2 opened several possibilities for Rit. He had already cleared TIFR and appeared for its interview, while he also received an interview opportunity from IISER Pune. Among these options, IIT Bombay was his current priority.

When discussing his future plans, Rit shared an interest in research and said:

“Kuch aisa research ki help se matlab kuch koi novel product banana chahte ho aur phir usse matlab thoda industry side jaana chahta hoon aisa.”

His response shows that he is interested in exploring research with a possible connection to developing products and eventually moving towards the industry side.

Rit’s Advice to Students Preparing for IIT JAM

Rit also discussed how he maintained his motivation during preparation. He said he did not experience a phase where he wanted to leave his preparation, and credited meditation with helping him maintain his motivation.

He shared:

“Nahi aisa to nahi lagta matlab main usmein mujhe matlab meditation ne kaafi help ki meri matlab motivation ko maintain karne mein.”

He also mentioned his interest in self-help books and meditation.

For students preparing for competitive examinations, his interview highlights a few practical aspects of his journey:

  • Focus on the quality of study hours rather than only counting hours.

  • Plan preparation around the time available after college or other responsibilities.

  • Break a large preparation goal into daily targets.

  • Believe in yourself and continue progressing one day at a time.

  • Find approaches that help maintain focus and motivation.

Rit’s IIT JAM 2026 journey led to All India Rank 2 in Biotechnology. His experience shows how consistent preparation, effective time management, daily planning, and a focused approach can become important parts of a student’s preparation journey.
