IIT JAM 2027: The IIT JAM 2027 Information Brochure has been released by IIT Kharagpur, the Organizing Institute for JAM 2027. The exam will be conducted on 14 February 2027 (Sunday) in two sessions. The JAM 2027 application process will be conducted through JOAPS from 5 September to 12 October 2026. Candidates can appear for one or two test papers, subject to the session-wise paper combination.

IIT JAM 2027 is a national-level Computer Based Test for admission to postgraduate programmes such as M.Sc., M.Sc. (Tech.), M.S. (Research), M.Sc.-M.Tech. Dual Degree, Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree and Integrated Ph.D. programmes. JAM 2027 will be conducted for seven test papers: Biotechnology, Chemistry, Economics, Geology, Mathematics, Mathematical Statistics and Physics.

IIT JAM 2027 Exam Date and Session Timings

IIT JAM 2027 will be conducted on 14 February 2027 (Sunday) in two sessions. The examination duration is three hours for each paper.

IIT JAM 2027 Application Form

The IIT JAM 2027 application form will be available online through the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS).

The application window will remain open from 5 September 2026 to 12 October 2026. Candidates must first register on JOAPS using their name, valid email address and active mobile number. After registration, the candidate will receive an Enrollment ID and OTP for completing the application process.

Candidates will need to provide personal and academic details and upload the required documents, including photograph, signature, qualifying-degree information and applicable category certificates.

Candidates should carefully verify all details before submitting the application form.

IIT JAM 2027 Application Fees

The JAM 2027 application fee varies according to the candidate's category and the number of test papers selected.

IIT JAM 2027 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have completed their undergraduate degree or will appear in the final examination of their qualifying degree in 2027 are eligible to appear for JAM 2027.

There is no age restriction for appearing in the examination. JAM 2027 is open to Indian as well as foreign nationals.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must either:

  • Have completed their undergraduate degree; or

  • Be appearing in the final examination of their qualifying undergraduate degree in 2027.

However, qualifying for JAM 2027 alone does not guarantee admission. Candidates must satisfy the Eligibility Requirements (ERs) and Minimum Educational Qualifications (MEQs) prescribed for the specific programme and admitting institute.

The undergraduate programme must be completed before the admission date specified by the respective admitting institute, and candidates must submit proof of the qualifying degree within the prescribed timeline.

IIT JAM 2027 Subjects and Syllabus

JAM 2027 will be conducted for seven test papers:

IIT JAM 2027 Exam Pattern

JAM 2027 will be conducted as a Computer Based Test (CBT). Each test paper will contain 60 questions carrying 100 marks. The question paper will be divided into three compulsory sections: Section A, Section B and Section C.

Section A: MCQ

Section A contains 30 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).

  • Questions 1–10 carry 1 mark each.

  • Questions 11–30 carry 2 marks each.

  • Only one option is correct.

  • Negative marking applies.

  • One-third mark is deducted for an incorrect 1-mark answer.

  • Two-thirds mark is deducted for an incorrect 2-mark answer.

Section B: MSQ

Section B contains 10 Multiple Select Questions (MSQs).

  • Each question carries 2 marks.

  • One or more options may be correct.

  • There is no negative marking.

  • There is no partial marking.

Section C: NAT

Section C contains 20 Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.

  • Questions 41–50 carry 1 mark each.

  • Questions 51–60 carry 2 marks each.

  • Candidates must enter the numerical answer using the virtual numeric keypad.

  • No answer choices are provided.

  • There is no negative marking.

The official structure confirms 30 MCQs, 10 MSQs and 20 NAT questions, adding up to 60 questions and 100 marks.

For Section A, 1/3 mark is deducted for an incorrect 1-mark MCQ and 2/3 mark for an incorrect 2-mark MCQ. There is no negative marking in Sections B and C.

Candidates should also note that unattempted questions receive zero marks.

IIT JAM 2027 Test Paper Combination

Candidates can appear for one or two test papers. A candidate selecting two papers must choose papers scheduled in different sessions.

IIT JAM 2027 Admission Process

JAM 2027 scores will be used for admission to postgraduate programmes for the 2027–28 academic year.

Through JAM scores, candidates can seek admission to programmes including:

  • M.Sc.

  • M.Sc. (Tech.)

  • M.S. (Research)

  • M.Sc.-M.Tech. Dual Degree

  • Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D.

  • M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree

  • Integrated Ph.D.

Admission depends on the candidate's All India Rank (AIR), reservation policy, availability of seats and the eligibility requirements of the respective programme and institute.

IIT JAM 2027 Seats and Participating Institutes

For the 2027–28 academic year, around 3,000 postgraduate seats across 23 IITs will be available through JAM, subject to the applicable eligibility requirements and seat matrix.

JAM scores will also be used for admission to more than 2,000 postgraduate seats at result-sharing institutes including IISc, CFTIs, NITs, DIAT, IIEST Shibpur, IISER Pune, IISER Bhopal, IIPE, JNCASR and SLIET, among others.

Candidates should check the programme-wise Minimum Educational Qualifications, Eligibility Requirements and seat matrix before applying for admission.

IIT JAM 2027 Exam Centres

JAM 2027 will be conducted across examination cities in eight zones. Candidates are required to select their first, second and third choices of examination city during the application process.

The second and third city choices must be from the same zone as the first choice. The final examination city allotment is subject to operational considerations.

Candidates preparing for JAM 2027 should begin by understanding the official syllabus and exam pattern of their selected paper. A structured preparation strategy should include:

  1. Covering the complete JAM 2027 syllabus.

  2. Building strong conceptual understanding of core topics.
