With the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 exam concluded, the students' focus has shifted entirely to the upcoming Session 2, scheduled to be held from April 2 to April 8. As the exam dates approach, candidates are entering the final stretch of their preparation. However, academic readiness is only half the battle; administrative compliance is equally vital.
One of the most critical documents you need to carry to the exam centre is the Self-Declaration (Undertaking) form. This document, typically found on the first page of your admit card, is a mandatory requirement by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Filling it incorrectly or forgetting it altogether can lead to unnecessary complications at the entry gate.
The Self-Declaration form is a legal undertaking by the candidate. Its primary purpose is to ensure that the student complies with the NTA’s Exam Integrity and Health Protocols. By signing this, you confirm you are fit to appear and agree to follow all safety and security measures at the centre.
How to Fill the Self-Declaration Form: Step-by-Step Guide
To ensure your entry into the exam hall is seamless, follow these specific instructions for the Session 2 form:
Check the Details: Ensure the printed details on your admit card match your registration data.
Health Declaration: You will see a list of symptoms (like fever, cough, or breathlessness). If you have experienced none of these in the last 14 days, leave the checkboxes blank.
Travel History: If you have travelled to any other city or country in the 14 days prior to your exam date (April 2–8). Only fill the travel history section if the form explicitly asks for it. In recent sessions, this has been simplified or removed. Do not fill it unless you have actually travelled to a different city in the last 14 days.
Affix Photograph: Paste a passport-size photograph in the designated box. Ideally, this should be the same photo you used during the JEE Main registration process.
Thumb Impression: Put your left-hand thumb impression in the specified area. Make sure the impression is clear and not smudged. Use a high-quality blue or black ink pad.
The Signature Rule: This is the most important step. Do not sign the form at home. The candidate’s signature must be done only at the exam center in the presence of the invigilator.
Given that only a few days are left for the April session, avoid these common errors that often cause panic at the test centre:
Signing in Advance: Many students mistakenly sign the form while preparing their kit at home. If you do this, you may be asked to print a new copy and fill it out again outside the centre.
Smudged Thumb Impressions: Ensure your thumb is dry after using the ink pad. A messy smudge that obscures the ridges of your thumbprint might be flagged during verification.
Missing Pages: The admit card usually consists of 3-4 pages. Even though the undertaking is on the first page, carry all pages to the center, as they contain vital instructions.
Using a Different Photo: To avoid identity verification issues, try to use the same photograph that appears on your JEE Main admit card.
Digital Copies are Invalid: You cannot show your admit card or self-declaration on a mobile phone. You must have a physical, printed copy. We recommend printing a minimum of two copies—one as a backup in your bag.
As you prepare for the April 2–8 window, keep these points in mind:
Reporting Time: Check your specific reporting time mentioned on the admit card. Arriving early helps in completing the frisking and biometric process without haste.
Valid ID Proof: Along with the admit card and self-declaration, carry an original photo ID (Aadhar Card, PAN Card, or Voter ID).
Items Allowed: Carry a simple transparent ballpoint pen, an additional photograph for the attendance sheet, and a transparent water bottle if needed.
Note: While Voter ID and PAN are mentioned, Aadhaar Card (Authenticated) is the preferred ID. If your Aadhaar was not authenticated during registration, or if you use a non-Aadhaar ID, you must reach the centre at least one hour earlier for manual biometric verification.
