Every JEE aspirant dreams of securing an IIT seat, but the journey is rarely smooth. For Utkarsh Goyal, the path included personal loss, financial hardship, and the disappointment of losing an IIT seat due to a counselling error. Instead of giving up, he chose to prepare again with discipline, self-study, and guidance from Physics Wallah (PW). His determination helped him score 99.83 percentile in JEE Main 2026 and aim for a stronger performance in JEE Advanced 2026.
Utkarsh comes from Mursan in Uttar Pradesh, where his family faced financial difficulties after the demise of his father, who had been the sole earning member.
Today, his family consists of:
Mother – Homemaker
Elder Brother – Runs a small import-export business
Sister – Preparing for UGC NET
With a monthly family income of approximately ₹10,000, managing household expenses and education was never easy. His elder brother took responsibility for supporting the family, ensuring that Utkarsh could continue pursuing his studies despite financial limitations.
Utkarsh's preparation started long before Class 12. During Class 10, he learned through a friend's Physics Wallah batch. However, in Class 11, financial constraints prevented him from purchasing a dedicated JEE course.
Determined not to stop learning, he completed most of his Class 11 preparation using freely available study resources while maintaining his focus on JEE rather than only board examinations.
Purchasing the Lakshya JEE 2025 batch itself was a significant financial decision for the family. Despite their limited income, his brother managed to support his education because the family believed in his dream.
One of the biggest setbacks in Utkarsh's journey came after his previous JEE attempt.
Although he had earned the opportunity to join an IIT, an error during the JoSAA counselling process resulted in him losing his allotted seat.
For many students, such an experience could end their preparation. Instead, Utkarsh treated it as motivation to prepare once again.
Rather than dwelling on disappointment, he chose to take a drop year and focus entirely on improving his performance.
During his drop year, purchasing another coaching program was financially difficult.
Instead of allowing this limitation to affect his preparation, Utkarsh relied on:
His old class notes
Previous lecture recordings
Regular question practice
Mock tests and self-analysis
Consistent revision
He also made effective use of library facilities, downloading lectures whenever possible and studying with complete dedication.
His preparation strategy proved that consistency and disciplined revision can often matter more than having access to multiple learning resources.
Throughout his JEE journey, Physics Wallah remained an important part of Utkarsh's learning.
His preparation included:
Lakshya JEE 2025 Batch
Varun JEE Advanced Batch
JEE Khazana resources
The dedicated lectures, concept-focused teaching, and extensive practice material helped him strengthen his understanding of Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Even during his drop year, he continued revising concepts using his PW notes and previously studied material instead of constantly switching resources.
Utkarsh's disciplined preparation gradually translated into impressive academic improvement.
JEE Main 2026 Percentile: 99.83%
Expected JEE Advanced 2026 Score: 170 Marks
Studied Through: Lakshya JEE 2025
Drop Year Preparation: Self-study with old notes and regular practice
His journey highlights how persistence and continuous improvement can help students recover from setbacks and perform better in subsequent attempts.
As Utkarsh awaits the JEE Advanced 2026 results, he hopes to finally secure the IIT seat he narrowly missed earlier. His journey reflects determination, resilience, and the willingness to begin again despite personal loss and financial hardship.
From studying with limited resources to rebuilding his confidence after losing an IIT seat, Utkarsh has shown that success often belongs to those who refuse to quit. His story serves as an inspiration for every JEE aspirant facing setbacks, proving that with consistent effort, focused preparation, and the right guidance, dreams can still become reality.
