To register for JEE Advanced 2026, Indian nationals and OCI/PIO candidates must satisfy all five of the following criteria simultaneously. Failing even one makes a candidate ineligible — there are no exceptions.
• JEE Main Rank: Candidates must rank among the top 2,50,000 (approx.) successful candidates (including all categories) in the B.E./B.Tech. paper of JEE Main 2026.
The category-wise breakdown is: Open — 40.5%, OBC-NCL — 27%, EWS — 10%, SC — 15%, and ST — 7.5%. The total may slightly exceed 2,50,000 in cases of tied scores.
• Age Limit: Candidates must be born on or after October 1, 2001. SC, ST, and PwD candidates receive a 5-year relaxation and must be born on or after October 1, 1996.
• Number of Attempts: A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
• Class 12 Appearance: Candidates must have appeared in the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2025 or 2026, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as
subjects.
• Previous IIT Admission: Candidates whose admission at any IIT was cancelled (for any reason) are not eligible. However, candidates admitted to a preparatory course at an IIT in 2025 for the first time may appear.

JEE Advanced is the second stage of India's two-tier national engineering entrance system, conducted after JEE Main. Around 2,50,000 candidates from JEE Main Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) are eligible to attempt JEE Advanced. Admission through this exam leads to undergraduate programmes at all 23 IITs, including B.Tech., B.S., B.Arch., Dual Degree (B.Tech.–M.Tech.), Integrated M.Tech., and other combinations, all taught in English.
For 2026, the Organizing Institute is IIT Roorkee. The exam is conducted entirely online as a Computer Based Test (CBT) and comprises two compulsory papers of three hours each — Paper 1 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, and Paper 2 from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM on May 17, 2026. Absence from either paper results in automatic disqualification.
