The National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting Day 3 of the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 examination today, January 23. The exam is being held in two shifts for BE/BTech aspirants across various centres in India.

Overall Difficulty Level on 23 January 2026 (Day Summary)

The detailed JEE Main 2026 January 23 Shift 1 difficulty level is updated here after the exam concludes at 12 noon.  There is a noticeable variation between the two sessions, with one shift being slightly more time-consuming for some candidates.
The overall balance of conceptual and numerical questions is expected to remain consistent with earlier days of the exam. Student feedback suggested the paper followed the expected JEE Main Session 1 pattern.

Based on trends from Day 1 (Jan 21) and Day 2 (Jan 22), the following predictions are made for today’s exam.

Difficulty – Shift 1

  • Overall: Moderate and Lengthy

  • Mathematics: Moderate and challenging

  • Physics: Moderate, a few questions were Calculative

  • Chemistry: Moderate and Lengthy

Expected Difficulty – Shift 2

  • Overall: Moderate to slightly easier than Shift 1

  • Mathematics: Lengthy but manageable

  • Physics: Moderate with conceptual + numerical mix

  • Chemistry: Easy to moderate, NCERT-based

Physics remained largely formula-driven with a balanced mix of conceptual and numerical questions, making it approachable for most candidates.

Chemistry

Chemistry was mostly NCERT-oriented and straightforward, helping students attempt a higher number of questions confidently.

Mathematics

Mathematics was comparatively lengthy and calculation-intensive, requiring strong time management across both shifts.
