JEE Main Dress Code 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) organises the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main every year for students who are aspiring to join some of the top engineering colleges. JEE Main 2026 session 1 will be conducted from 21 to 30 January, and session 2 from 1 to 10 April. Prior to entering the exam hall, every student has to follow some rules. One of the most important things that every aspirant has to keep in mind is the JEE Main Dress Code 2026.
NTA has released a list of do’s and don’ts under the JEE Mains 2026 dress code to make the entire exam process transparent and fair. The JEE Main 2026 exam conducting body does not specify any kind of uniform, but it has shared some important instructions about what to wear and what not to wear for the exam. According to the JEE Mains dress code NTA, students are not allowed to wear any shoes with thick soles or clothes with large buttons.

The security checks at the exam centre are quite strict, and wearing any metallic or heavy clothing can cause a delay. According to the JEE Mains dress code NTA, here are some main points for boys.

Avoid caps, mufflers, and goggles as well, as these items will be checked separately and can cause wastage of time.

JEE Main Dress Code for Female 2026
NTA has also provided specific instructions for girls under the JEE Main dress code for females 2026. The primary rule is to wear simple clothes, be comfortable, and avoid any clothing or items that may cause interruption during security checks.

According to the JEE Mains dress code for girls, it is best to avoid wearing any kind of dupatta, stole, or scarf. Security may ask you to remove these while checking.

Girls should also avoid wearing any kind of jewellery such as earrings, bangles, rings, or anklets. Metallic hairpins and clips are also not allowed, so they must be replaced with plastic ones.

JEE Main 2026 Exam Day Guidelines
Along with the JEE Main Dress Code 2026, NTA has also released some important JEE Main 2026 exam day guidelines for all students. Following these instructions can help candidates avoid any confusion or last-minute problems on the exam day.

Students should visit the exam centre a day before the exam date to check the route and timing required to reach. They should also reach the exam centre at least one hour before the reporting time on the exam day.

Each candidate must carry their JEE Main 2026 admit card, one photograph of size 2.5 x 3.5 cm, and a valid photo ID card. Photo ID cards include Aadhaar card, PAN card, school ID, or any other government-issued ID. If students forget to bring any of these things, then they will not be allowed inside.

No candidate can carry any electronic device, such as mobile phones, watches, calculators, or any study materials into the exam hall. As per the JEE Main 2026 exam day guidelines, any student who is found with these devices will be disqualified.

Frisking will be done on students before and after the toilet breaks to maintain a fair environment. All the students must cooperate with the security staff during frisking.
Students must follow all instructions during the exam while sitting inside the hall. They are also advised to maintain discipline while writing.
Is Jeans Allowed in JEE Main 2026?
One of the most common questions by students before the exam day is whether jeans are allowed in JEE Mains. The simple answer to this question is yes — jeans are allowed in JEE Mains 2026.
Jeans should be plain, without heavy metal zips or decorative patterns on them. Tight or uncomfortable jeans should also be avoided as students have to sit for three hours during the exam.
NTA wants all students to focus on their paper without any kind of disturbance. That is the main reason the JEE Mains dress code NTA allows wearing jeans but with certain conditions.
Both boys and girls are allowed to wear jeans, but it’s better to prefer light cotton or denim material for comfort. As the exam will be held in winter and summer session, dress accordingly.
