How to Calculate NTA Percentile Score in JEE Main 2026

Many students confuse marks with percentile. NTA uses a normalization method to ensure fairness across multiple shifts.

Formula:

Percentile Score = (Number of candidates with raw score ≤ your score / Total candidates in the session) × 100

This means your percentile reflects your relative performance compared to others in the same shift. Due to normalization, two students with similar marks in different shifts may receive slightly different percentiles.

Marking Scheme and Tie-Breaking Rules for JEE MAIN 2026 Results

Marking Scheme:

  • Correct Answer: +4 marks

  • Incorrect Answer: -1 mark

  • Unattempted Question: 0 marks

  • Numerical Questions: -1 for incorrect answer

Tie-Breaking Criteria:

If candidates score the same total NTA score:

  1. Higher NTA Score in Mathematics

  2. Higher NTA Score in Physics

  3. Higher NTA Score in Chemistry
