The National Testing Agency (NTA) is set to resume the JEE Main 2026 Session 1 exams starting tomorrow, January 28. With over 10 lakh candidates already having appeared in the initial days, the final stretch for the January session is here. Whether you are appearing for JEE Main Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) or the BArch and BPlanning exams, staying updated on the shift timings and NTA's strict new protocols is essential.
Face Authentication and Aadhaar-based biometric verification are the latest high-tech security measures introduced by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to maintain the integrity of the JEE Main 2026 entrance exam.
Face Authentication: This process uses AI-driven NTA facial recognition technology to analyse unique facial features—such as the distance between the eyes and the structure of the nose. At the exam centre, a live photograph is captured and matched in real-time against the image you uploaded during registration to prevent any chance of impersonation.
Aadhaar Biometric Verification: This is a mandatory JEE Main identity authentication step where your 12-digit Aadhaar number is used to fetch your digital records from the UIDAI database. It involves fingerprint or iris scanning at the centre to confirm that the person sitting for the exam is the same individual who registered.
For the final days of the January session, the NTA has introduced Face Authentication combined with Aadhaar-based biometric verification. This isn't just a simple ID check; it’s a high-tech security layer designed to prevent impersonation and ensure exam integrity.
The new verification process is thorough but time-consuming. Here is why the NTA wants you at the gates well before the "Gate Closing" time:
Face Authentication: Your live facial features will be matched against your application photo.
Biometric Recording: If you registered without Aadhaar or if your live photo didn't match your Aadhaar data, you must undergo manual biometric recording, which can take an additional 30–60 minutes.
All JEE Main Session 1 candidates: Biometric verification is compulsory for every aspirant.
January 28 & 29 candidates: NTA has issued special instructions due to enhanced face and Aadhaar-based checks on these days.
Non-Aadhaar registered students: Candidates who used Passport, PAN, or other IDs must report at least 1 hour early for manual biometric verification.
All exam centres: Biometric verification is mandatory at every centre in India and abroad.
Reach the exam centre well before the reporting time
Carry your Aadhaar card and JEE Main admit card
Cooperate during face scan and fingerprint verification
Follow all instructions given by the invigilator and centre staff
Candidates are advised to arrive early because biometric verification and security checks may take extra time. Reaching the centre in advance helps avoid last-minute rush, stress, or any entry-related issues before the exam starts.
Biometric verification is mandatory for all candidates
Incomplete verification may affect entry to the exam hall
Security checks are part of standard NTA guidelines
Follow any COVID or centre-specific instructions, if applicable
Self-Declaration (Undertaking): Downloaded with your admit card, duly filled (but sign it only in front of the invigilator).
While Session 1 wraps up this week, the NTA is expected to open registrations for JEE Main 2026 Session 2 shortly. This will be the final opportunity for students to improve their NTA scores for admission into prestigious NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.
Stay Calm and Reach Early! The JEE Main is as much a test of your temperament as it is of your knowledge. By following the NTA advisory and arriving early, you ensure that your mind is focused on the questions rather than the clock at the entry gate.
