How Agrim Jain Balanced IPMAT Preparation With Class 12 Boards Using PW Pro Batch

Agrim Jain's journey to the IIM Rohtak IPM programme began with a common challenge for Class 12 students: preparing for board examinations while simultaneously targeting a competitive entrance exam.

He discovered IPM towards the end of Class 11 and initially wondered whether he could manage both preparations together. After choosing Physics Wallah, he started building his foundation while continuing with his school studies.

His preparation included PW classes, practice material, DPPs, mock tests, and regular revision. Along the way, VARC emerged as his weakest area, requiring him to rethink his approach, especially after facing difficulties in the IPMAT Indore examination.

Eventually, his focused preparation helped him clear IPMAT Rohtak, perform well in the interview, and secure admission to IIM Rohtak.

How Agrim Jain Balanced IPMAT Preparation With Class 12 Boards

Agrim first learned about the IPM programme towards the end of Class 11. His first challenge was deciding whether he could prepare for IPMAT without compromising his Class 12 board preparation.

After deciding to pursue both goals, he chose PW for his IPM preparation and gradually became involved in the classes and practice routine.

“So sir mujhe IBR program ke baare mein 11th standard ke end mein pata chala tha. So jaise hi main ja sabse pehla to ki kya main boards aur IPMAT dono ko ek saath manage kar bhi paunga ya nahi. Aur jab iska answer mil gaya to phir it was ki kaun si coaching ke liye jaaun. So jab ye dono ki dono cheezein sulajh gayi. So I went with PW.”

As the programme progressed, Agrim became an active participant in the classes and regularly raised questions and doubts. His preparation eventually reached a stage where the syllabus and test series were completed, followed by the pressure of managing boards and IPMAT together.

This made effective planning increasingly important. His early preparation, particularly during the summer break, became an important part of building the foundation he would later rely on.

Agrim Jain Built His IPMAT Foundation During the Summer Break

While preparing for both boards and IPMAT, Agrim received guidance from his teachers and mentors on how to use his available time effectively.

One piece of advice that stayed with him was to use the summer break to strengthen his fundamentals. Instead of waiting until the final months before IPMAT, he decided to build a strong base early.

“Agar aapke upar walon ki guidance hai, apne badon ki guidance hai to phir some badi se badi cheezein bhi aasan hone lag jaati hai. And second of all I think my teachers were really supportive. Jab maine unko bataya ki ma'am I want to do this. To unhone mere ko ek tip di thi jo ki I think saare mentors ne di thi.”

He further explained how this advice shaped his preparation:

“To phir unhone mujhe bola tha agar main aapke summer breaks wo aapke liye ice breaker hone wale hain. Agar aapne inmein achhe se apni foundation pe hold bana liya to phir aap pehle hi 90% bachchon se aage ho.”

Agrim followed this advice by working extensively on his foundation and completing the relevant books and concepts.

This early preparation helped him manage the later pressure of boards and IPMAT more effectively. Instead of trying to learn everything close to the exam, he had already established a base that he could revise and strengthen.

Agrim Jain Turned His VARC Struggle Into a Personal Strategy

Among the three major areas of IPMAT preparation, VARC proved to be Agrim’s biggest challenge.

His difficulty became particularly clear during the IPMAT Indore examination. He had a habit of attempting Reading Comprehension passages first, but a difficult passage affected his confidence and disrupted his usual approach.

Looking back at that experience, Agrim identified a specific lesson that changed how he approached RCs.

“To phir maine haan ji unfortunately to phir maine kya seekha ki agar aap kabhi bhi VARC ki practice kar rahe ho to apna mann bana lijiye ki aap RC ko sirf ek baar padhenge.”

He developed a strategy where he would read an RC only once and then attempt its questions in one flow. He also placed a time limit on how long he would spend on a difficult passage.

“Ab chahe aap usko 3 minute do, chaar minute do ya 5 minute do. 5 minute was upper limit. Usse zyada nahi dena hai. Agar 5 minute ho gaye hain. RC ko wahi wahi chhod do.”

This strategy was based on his own experience rather than blindly following a fixed approach. He understood that different students may need different methods, but for him, limiting the time spent on one RC helped prevent a single difficult passage from affecting the rest of the section.

Agrim Jain Practised His Weak Area Before IPMAT Rohtak

After identifying VARC as his weak area, Agrim did not leave the problem at the level of analysis. He used the time between his examinations to practise RCs using the strategy he had developed.

He also discussed his approach with his mentor before continuing with it.

“Just after my IPMAT Indore, in those I think maine wo do weeks har din ek RC isi pattern ke saath solve kara tha. Maine I think Juhi ma'am ko bhi ek baar message drop kara tha ki ma'am aapki jo suggested strategy hai main thoda sa change karke apne liye isko aise treat kar raha hoon so will it make fine. To ma'am ne bola tha ki go ahead.”

The mentor’s response gave him additional confidence to continue with a strategy that suited his own strengths.

At the same time, he continued giving attention to the other sections. Since he already considered LRDI a stronger area, he could identify questions that were more suitable for him and manage his time accordingly.

This helped him avoid spending excessive preparation time on areas he was already comfortable with while giving additional practice to VARC.

Agrim Jain Used DPPs to Keep Concepts Fresh

Alongside lectures, Agrim regularly used Daily Practice Problems (DPPs) to reinforce what he had learned.

For him, the timing of DPP practice mattered. Delaying practice for too long could make it harder to recall the concepts covered in class.

“Agar aap abhi aspire karte ho ki I want to crack Indore aur Rohtak aur IPMAT for that matter apni sirf ek strategy rakho. Agar aapne aaj ek topic kara hai. Agar aapke institution ne uske liye DPP ya phir practice test diya hai... agar aapne wo DPP aaj miss kar di to phir aapko wo topic ek mahine ke baad yaad hi nahi rahega.”

He therefore preferred completing DPPs soon after learning a topic.

“Aaj agar class attend kiya hai to within the next two to three days DPP complete ho jaani chahiye. Otherwise if you are looking at the DPP after 15-20 days... jo concept aapne learn kiya hai wo fade out ho jayega aapke dimaag se.”

This approach helped him connect learning with immediate practice instead of allowing concepts to remain purely theoretical.

Agrim Jain Used Mock Tests to Identify Easy, Medium and Tough Questions

Mock tests became another important part of Agrim’s preparation. He attempted PW mock tests along with tests from other institutions and used them to understand his strengths, weaknesses, and question-selection ability.

Rather than looking only at his score, he analysed the questions according to their difficulty.

“Sabse pehle ye define karo easy, medium, tough questions kaun se hain. Sabse pehle ye dekho.”

He would first identify the questions that were easy for him, then move towards medium and difficult questions. This helped him understand which topics required more attention and which foundational areas he had not yet covered properly.

The mock tests also revealed gaps in his preparation. Since the mock series could begin before the entire syllabus was complete, he could identify topics that he had not studied yet and work on them before moving to more difficult questions.

For VARC, however, he found that the same approach did not always apply. His experience taught him to be more flexible and use question elimination and judgement when appropriate.

Agrim Jain Entered IPMAT Rohtak With Greater Confidence

After the IPMAT Indore examination, Agrim shifted his focus towards the Rohtak examination. The difference in difficulty between the two exams meant that his preparation approach also changed.

He felt that the practice he had done for the more difficult questions gave him an advantage when approaching the relatively more foundational questions in IPMAT Rohtak.

“Indore ka exam dene ke baad main bilkul like 100% Rohtak ke liye prepare kar raha tha. Aur somehow Indore ke liye aap jis level par prepare karte ho aapko four or five steps down jaana padta hai for preparing for Rohtak. Because dono ki difficulty mein I will say zameen aasman ka fark hota hai.”

This preparation helped him enter the Rohtak examination with confidence. He found the paper manageable and attempted all the questions.

His preparation for the exam also included attention to General Knowledge and previous-year questions, areas that he felt many aspirants could overlook.

Agrim Jain’s IPMAT Rohtak Result Boosted His Confidence for the Interview

When Agrim saw the IPMAT Rohtak cutoff and compared it with his performance, his confidence increased further.

“Aur phir Rohtak mein bilkul confident when I gave the exam ki cutoff to main nikaal hi lunga. Then I saw the cutoff it was I think in the 360 but I was expecting the cutoff to be 400 plus because mere ko paper itna easy lag raha tha.”

His strong performance gave him confidence going into the interview stage. However, he continued preparing for the interview rather than assuming that his exam score alone would guarantee admission.

That preparation paid off when he successfully cleared the interview as well and received his final admission to IIM Rohtak.

For Agrim, the final result represented the completion of a journey that had started with uncertainty about balancing Class 12 boards and IPMAT.

Agrim Jain’s IPM Journey Shows the Value of Early Preparation

Agrim Jain’s journey to IIM Rohtak highlights how students can manage board examinations and competitive entrance exams by building a strong foundation early and using their time wisely.

His preparation with PW included foundation classes, DPPs, mock tests, practice questions, and mentor guidance. More importantly, he learned from his IPMAT Indore experience and developed a VARC strategy suited to his strengths.

His story also shows that preparation does not always follow a perfect upward curve. A difficult exam experience can reveal weaknesses, but analysing those weaknesses and adapting the strategy can make the next attempt stronger.

For IPMAT aspirants preparing alongside Class 12, Agrim journey offers a practical lesson: build your foundation early, practise consistently, analyse your mocks, and be willing to change your strategy when something does not work.
