Climate Change And Health

A low rank in an early medical entrance exam can leave aspirants unsure about their preparation strategy and what to change next. Pulkit Gupta faced a similar situation after securing an INICET rank of 13,700 before his first NEET PG attempt.

With a focused seven-month preparation plan, consistent MCQ practice, GTs, and a calm approach to the exam, Pulkit improved his performance and secured AIR 611 in NEET PG 2025. Physics Wallah supported his preparation with QBank and revision resources that helped him practise and analyse his preparation more effectively.

How Pulkit's NEET PG Journey Began

A low rank in an early competitive exam can make medical aspirants question their preparation and future plans. Pulkit Gupta, an AIIMS Jodhpur graduate, faced a similar situation when he secured a rank of 13,700 in the INICET November attempt.

Instead of letting that result define his preparation, Pulkit used the next seven months to change his approach. He focused on GTs, MCQs, revision, and maintaining a calm mindset. His consistent efforts helped him secure AIR 611 in NEET PG 2025 in his first attempt.

Pulkit shared that his NEET PG attempt came after completing his internship:

"Sir maine UG AIIMS Jodhpur se kiya hai aur ye mera first NEET PG attempt tha."

"Sir 13,700 rank thi meri."

His rank improved significantly in the next attempt, giving him confidence that his preparation strategy was working. For Pulkit, the journey from a 13,700 rank to AIR 611 was built over seven months of focused preparation.

The Struggles Pulkit Faced During Preparation

One of Pulkit's biggest decisions came during his internship. Like many MBBS students, he had to decide whether to completely focus on preparation or enjoy his final year with friends.

"Sir jab meri internship start hui thi 2024 mein to mujhe ye mann mein doubt tha ki main apna 100% doon ya phir apni internship enjoy karun kyunki last year tha MBBS ka, friends ke saath last year tha."

His friends encouraged him to enjoy the phase because they believed he could prepare well later.

"Unhone kuch seniors se baat kari to unhone mujhe yahi bola ki abhi tu maze kar le kyunki humein pata hai ki tu kar sakta hai. Unko mujh mein belief tha. Phir unki wajah se mujhe bhi khud mein belief aa gaya. Yahan main kar lunga aage."

Pulkit followed their advice and completed his internship without constantly worrying about preparation. His INICET result later became a motivation to work harder.

"Sir phir... like I mean everybody hits hard but we all deserve it yaar."

"Yes sir. Like within seven months main three digit rank produce kar paya. To I think kaafi achha effort tha."

This experience taught him that preparation does not always require giving up every part of life. What mattered was becoming completely focused when it was time to prepare seriously.

How Physics Wallah Helped Pulkit Preparation

Pulkit's preparation strategy gave importance to GTs, MCQs and theory. During the initial months, he focused more on theory to build his concepts. Later, he balanced theory with question practice and revision.

"Sir matlab sabse zyada emphasis maine GTs ko di thi. Uske baad MCQs phir theory but during mere initial months jo the January February March usmein maine theory ko zyada emphasis di kyunki sir jab tak theory nahi aayegi to main MCQs kaise karunga. Uske baad phir revision ke time pe maine balance kiya dono ko MCQs aur theory ko."

He gave particular attention to Anatomy and Pathology, while also identifying PSM and Pediatrics as subjects he enjoyed. For MCQ practice, Pulkit gradually increased his daily target:

"Aur MCQs mein aap start karte hain 10, 20 jo bhi aapka level hai. Phir gradually increase karna hai up to 200 per day."

He also recommended increasing GT frequency as preparation progresses. According to him, aspirants can begin with one GT every two weeks and later move to weekly GTs.

Once the first reading of theory is complete, he suggested moving towards weekly GTs. Pulkit also used Physics Wallah resources to supplement his main study material. He explained why he used GTs from different platforms:

"Sir mera main study content narrow tha. Uske baad maine ise PW ke saath supplement kiya."

Physics Wallah's Marathon content and QBank also supported his revision and MCQ practice.

"Yes sir, Marathon content se kya hota hai like kitne hi hum books padh sakte hain, kitni baar hum notes padhenge, Marathon session se kya hota hai ek visual memory create ho jaati hai to usse analyse karne mein easy hota hai aur QBank sir to sir hai hi bahut achha MEDIT ka."

He particularly highlighted the role of MCQs in understanding larger subjects:

"Sir mere according kisi bhi concept ko samajhne ke liye specially like jo bade subjects hain Medicine, Surgery, unko kisi bhi concept ko samajhne ke liye MCQ practice must hai."

How Pulkit Improved His Result to AIR 611

Pulkit's improvement was not only about studying more. He also worked on how he handled pressure and approached questions during the exam.

After getting a 13,700 rank in INICET, he felt disappointed and worried about getting the branch he wanted. However, a friend's attitude helped him manage his stress.

"Sir INICET mein meri rank thi to mujhe matlab kaafi... main devastated tha ki ye to bahut hi zyada gandi rank hai. Mujhe kuch nahi milega. Jo Orthopedics chahiye wo nahi milegi."

He compared his mindset with a friend who had secured a much better rank and tried to understand how that friend handled pressure.

"To main jab bhi agle 3 months, 2 months pareshaan hota tha, to main soch raha tha ki wo friend is situation mein kya karta aur wo in cheezon ko lightly leta tha."

This helped Pulkit realise that excessive stress could affect his preparation. His exam-day strategy was equally simple: avoid overthinking. Eventually, his preparation, MCQ practice and GT strategy helped him become comfortable with the exam pattern. He explained the logic behind solving around 200 questions daily:

"200 questions per day * 90 days is equal to 18000 questions. Matlab itne sawaal bhai matlab once you have done those many questions there is no question jo aapko lagega ki naya hai."

This combination of practice, revision, GTs and exam-day composure helped Pulkit move from AIR 13,700 in INICET to AIR 611 in NEET PG 2025.

What Pulkit's Journey Can Teach NEET PG Aspirants

Pulkit's journey shows that an early setback does not have to decide the final result. His improvement came from changing his preparation approach, practising MCQs consistently, using GTs to analyse his performance, revising through focused resources and avoiding unnecessary stress.

His experience with Physics Wallah also highlights how QBank, Marathon content and additional GT practice can supplement a focused preparation strategy. For aspirants preparing for NEET PG, his story is a reminder to identify gaps, practise regularly, analyse performance honestly and stay calm when the exam finally arrives.
