Common Mistakes to Avoid While Filling NEET 2026 Form: Filling the NEET (UG) 2026 application form may look simple, but every year thousands of forms are rejected due to small but serious mistakes. NEET 2026 registration has started from 8 February and will continue till 8 March 2026. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has clearly mentioned strict rules in the official Information Bulletin. Once the form is submitted and the fee is paid, most details cannot be edited except during the limited correction window.
To help you avoid rejection, here are the most common mistakes students make while filling the NEET 2026 form and how you can avoid them.
Aspirants can apply for MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other undergraduate medical courses across India. The online application process enables candidates to register, upload the required documents, pay the prescribed fee, and submit their details accurately.
Completing the NEET UG 2026 application form requires careful attention, as even small errors can lead to serious issues or rejection. To help you submit a valid form without mistakes, here are some common errors to avoid while filling out the NEET UG 2026 application form.
Many candidates enter wrong spelling of their name, parents’ name, date of birth, or gender. These details must exactly match your Aadhaar Card and Class 10 certificate.
Tip: Keep your Aadhaar card and Class 10 marksheet in front of you while filling the form.
NTA sends OTPs, confirmation page, admit card, and result updates only to the registered mobile number and email.
If you use a coaching centre’s or friend’s contact details, you may miss important communication.
Tip: Use only your own or your parent/guardian’s mobile number and email ID.
This is one of the biggest reasons for rejection. As per NTA rules:
Photo must be recent (after 1 January 2026)
White background, 80% face visible, no mask
Correct file size and format (JPG/JPEG)
Clear left and right-hand fingers and thumb impressions
Uploading edited, unclear, or old photographs is treated as Unfair Means (UFM).
Many students wrongly select OBC-NCL or EWS without having a valid certificate as per the Central List.
Category will be verified during counselling. If wrong, you may lose reservation benefits.
Tip: Select OBC-NCL only if your caste is in the Central OBC list (NCBC website).
Some students create a second form due to mistakes in the first one. This is strictly prohibited.
NTA clearly states that multiple forms will lead to cancellation of candidature and can be treated under Unfair Means.
Tip: If you make a mistake, wait for the correction window instead of filling a new form.
NTA matches your live photo with Aadhaar records. If your Aadhaar photo or details are outdated, you may be asked to submit extra verification documents.
Tip: Update your Aadhaar photo, name, and DOB before filling the form.
Students who have already passed Class 12 must select Code 02 to 07. Students appearing in Class 12 in 2026 must select Code 01. Wrong code can create issues during counselling.
You must choose 3 exam cities carefully from your state of present/permanent address. The question paper medium cannot be changed later.
Tip: Think carefully before selecting language and cities.
NTA has clearly mentioned the size limit for every document (photo, signature, certificates, marksheets). If the size is wrong, upload may fail or form may be rejected.
Many students assume the form is submitted after fee deduction. This is wrong.
Your form is successfully submitted only when the Confirmation Page is generated.
Tip: Download and save multiple copies of the confirmation page.
NTA strictly warns candidates not to use coaching centre details in the application form.
Note: Before clicking Submit, recheck every detail. Read the Information Bulletin carefully and keep all documents ready. Remember, once submitted, NTA does not modify details.
A careful 20 minutes while filling the form can save you from losing a year.
