The National Testing Agency (NTA) has placed a strict ban on the use and possession of electronic devices during NEET UG 2026, classifying such acts under Unfair Means Practices (UFM). These rules are enforced to maintain transparency, equality, and the integrity of the examination process.
Any violation, whether intentional or accidental can lead to cancellation of result, multi-year debarment, and criminal action under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
As per the official bulletin, unfair means practice refers to any activity that gives a candidate an unfair advantage over others. This includes, but is not limited to, being in possession or attempting to use any prohibited electronic or communication device inside the examination centre.
The following acts related to electronic devices are treated as serious violations:
Possession of any electronic or communication device inside the examination centre
Use or attempted use of any electronic device after entering the centre
Carrying items capable of storing, transmitting, or receiving information, whether relevant to the exam or not
Concealing devices within accessories, ornaments, eatables, or clothing
Using devices to contact or communicate with anyone other than examination staff
Any such act is sufficient to book a candidate under a UFM case, even if the device is not actively used.
If a candidate is found guilty of using or attempting to use an electronic device:
The candidate will be booked under an Unfair Means (UFM) case
Debarment from NTA examinations for up to 3 years, depending on severity
Criminal action may be initiated under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024
Additional penalties as notified by NTA from time to time
NTA has clearly stated that:
The result of candidates involved in unfair means will be cancelled and not declared
Results will also be cancelled if a candidate:
Appears from a centre other than the one allotted
Writes on another candidate’s OMR/Test Booklet
Allows another candidate to write on their behalf
