Ministries and Authorities Involved in NEET UG 2026 Admission Process: The NEET UG 2026 exam is a national-level test for any student who wants to study medicine. Many government offices and groups work together to smoothly conduct the exam. These groups are called ministries and authorities.
The Ministry of Education is part of the central government of India. They are the ones who started the National Testing Agency (NTA). Their main job is to make sure that the education system is fair and of high quality for every student. For NEET UG 2026, their decisions are very important and final.
The NTA is the group that actually organises the exam. Think of them as the managers of the test. Their work includes:
Inviting online applications from every student who wants to take the test.
Running the actual entrance exam in different cities.
Sharing the results and giving a rank to each student.
Providing the final list of ranks to the health services department for college admissions.
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW) works with the NTA. They help decide the rules for how students get into medical colleges. There is a group called the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) working in the ministry. The DGHS and the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) help a student choose their college based on their exam score.
National Medical Commission (NMC): They set the rules for MBBS courses.
Dental Council of India (DCI): They look after the rules for BDS (dental) courses.
Ministry of AYUSH: This ministry looks after courses like Ayurveda (BAMS), Unani (BUMS), and Homoeopathy (BHMS).
National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) and National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH): These groups help with the admission rules for AYUSH courses.
The Central and State government plays an important role in the NEET UG 2026 admission process. Each state has its own counselling group that helps a student find a seat in a medical college within that specific state.
