NEET 2026 Exam Mode: The NEET UG 2026 examination will maintain its established pen-and-paper format. This means responses will be marked on a machine-readable OMR sheet. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially confirmed that this medical entrance test will proceed in an offline mode. All candidates are required to attend their assigned examination centers physically.
The NEET 2026 exam mode will continue to be offline, following the traditional pen-and-paper format. As confirmed in the official notification released on February 8, 2026, candidates must mark their answers on a machine-readable OMR (Optical Mark Recognition) sheet. A ballpoint pen will be used for this purpose. This traditional approach ensures wider accessibility for all candidates.
The OMR sheet is a machine-gradable document requiring high precision. Errors in marking can lead to the rejection of the answer sheet.
Pen Specification: Candidates must use only the Blue or Black ballpoint pen provided by the NTA at the examination center.
Response Marking: Completely darken the circle corresponding to your chosen option.
No Changes: Once a circle is darkened, it cannot be erased or modified.
Restricted Materials: Avoid using white fluid, pencils, or erasers on the OMR sheet.
Personal Information: Carefully enter your Roll Number, Test Booklet Code, and Name on Side 1 of the OMR sheet.
Signature: Ensure your signature matches the one uploaded during registration.
No Stray Marks: Do not make unnecessary marks or folds on the sheet.
Verification: Cross-check the Test Booklet Code on the OMR with the code on your question paper.
Candidates have the option to choose from 13 different languages for their question paper. This language selection must be finalized during the registration period, which concludes on March 8, 2026.
Available Languages: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
Bilingual Papers: Candidates who choose a regional language will receive a bilingual test booklet containing questions in both their selected language and English.
Discrepancy Rule: In case of any translation ambiguity, the English version of the question will be considered final.
The NTA has confirmed that NEET UG 2026 will be conducted in the traditional offline mode. The exam will take place in a single shift on May 3, 2026. There are no changes to the NEET UG 2026 syllabus from the previous year. The examination will feature 180 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), totaling 720 marks. Questions per subject are 45, with each subject carrying 180 marks.
Key reasons for continuing the offline mode include:
Exam Accessibility: The pen-and-paper format ensures that candidates from diverse backgrounds, including those in rural areas, can participate without technical barriers.
Exam Familiarity: The long-standing offline format is familiar to many students, allowing them to take the test without issues related to new technology. The NEET 2026 exam mode is designed for broad reach.
