NEET 2026 Re-Exam New Changes

NEET 2026 Re-Exam New Changes: Just days before the NEET UG 2026 re-examination, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has introduced a series of candidate-friendly measures aimed at improving the examination experience. The changes were announced through an official public notice issued on June 12, 2026.

According to NTA, the modifications have been made after considering feedback received from students over the years. The objective is to ensure that the examination remains fair, secure, and more comfortable for candidates appearing in one of India's largest entrance examinations.

The NEET UG 2026 re-exam is scheduled to be conducted on June 21, 2026.

NEET 2026 Re-Exam New Changes at a Glance

The following changes have been introduced for the upcoming examination:

  • Examination duration extended to 195 minutes.

  • Exam timing revised to 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM.

  • Rough work pages increased from 2 to 4.

  • Question paper booklet redesigned.

  • Rough work space now available at both the beginning and end of the booklet.

  • Changes implemented in English as well as regional language question papers.

Exam Duration Increased to 195 Minutes

One of the most significant changes announced by NTA is the extension of the examination window.

Previously, candidates had raised concerns that certain mandatory examination formalities, such as attendance verification and invigilation procedures, reduced the effective time available for attempting questions. To address this issue, NTA has increased the overall examination duration to 195 minutes.

The NEET UG 2026 re-exam will now be conducted from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM.

According to the agency, the additional time has been incorporated to ensure that administrative procedures do not affect the actual time available for solving the question paper.

More Space for Rough Work

Another major change relates to rough work facilities provided inside the question paper booklet.

Candidates will now receive four rough work pages instead of two, giving them additional space for:

  • Numerical calculations

  • Biological diagrams

  • Physics problem-solving

  • Chemistry calculations

  • Other rough workings

The enhancement is expected to benefit students who rely heavily on calculations and step-by-step problem solving during the examination.

Question Paper Design Modified

NTA has also revised the design and layout of the question paper booklet.

In previous years, rough work pages were available only at the end of the booklet. While this arrangement suited many candidates, feedback suggested that it was not equally convenient for everyone.

To improve accessibility and usability, NTA has changed the booklet structure.

New Rough Work Layout

The revised question paper booklet will contain:

  • Two rough work pages immediately after the instruction page.

  • Two additional rough work pages at the end of the booklet.

This means candidates can use whichever section is more convenient while attempting questions.

Relief for Left-Handed Candidates

One of the key reasons behind the redesign is to improve convenience for left-handed candidates.

Many students had reported that rough work pages placed only at the end of the booklet were not always easy to access during the examination. By placing rough work pages at both ends of the booklet, NTA aims to provide a more comfortable writing experience for all candidates.

The revised design will be available in both English and regional language question paper booklets.

Why Has NTA Introduced These Changes?

According to the official notice, the changes have been introduced after analyzing feedback received from candidates over several years.

NTA stated that even minor improvements in examination design can significantly improve a candidate's experience during a high-stakes exam like NEET.

The agency emphasized that the new measures are intended to:

  • Enhance candidate comfort.

  • Improve examination usability.

  • Reduce stress during the test.

  • Ensure fair access to examination resources.

  • Maintain transparency, security, and examination integrity.

Important Instructions for Candidates

Candidates appearing for the NEET UG 2026 re-exam should carefully read all instructions mentioned in their admit cards and information bulletin.

NTA has advised students to:

  • Reach the examination centre well before reporting time.

  • Follow all examination guidelines.

  • Cooperate with invigilators and examination staff.

  • Carry the required documents and admit card.

  • Utilize the additional rough work pages responsibly.
