In a major NEET 2026 update, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has supported temporary Telegram restrictions in India ahead of the NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam on 21 June. The move aims to strengthen exam security and prevent fake paper leak claims, cyber fraud, and misinformation targeting aspirants.
According to an official statement, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has issued two time-bound directions regarding Telegram in India:
Restriction of access to the Telegram platform until 22 June 2026, covering the NEET re-examination period and its immediate aftermath.
Temporary disabling of Telegram's message-editing feature in India until 30 June 2026.
These measures have been introduced as part of the latest NEET UG 2026 Re Exam Security Measures to prevent cheating rackets from exploiting the platform.
NTA stated that several Telegram channels were actively misleading students by claiming to provide access to the NEET 2026 Question Paper Leak. Such channels demanded payments ranging from a few thousand rupees to several lakhs from students and parents.
Some channels reportedly operated under names such as:
"PAPER LEAKED NEET"
"Re-NEET 2026"
"Private Mafia"
"REE NEET MAFIAA"
According to NTA, no genuine NEET question paper exists outside the secured examination process, and all such claims are fraudulent.
This latest NEET 2026 Fraud Alert aims to protect students from falling victim to these scams.
Before imposing platform-level restrictions, authorities had already taken extensive action against fraudulent Telegram groups.
The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, coordinated with:
NTA
MeitY
State Police Forces
Cyber Crime Units
Together, they successfully removed numerous Telegram channels, bots, and groups spreading misinformation related to the examination.
However, NTA noted that channel-by-channel action alone was insufficient, leading to the recommendation for broader platform-level intervention.
This forms a significant part of the latest NTA Telegram Action for NEET.
One of the most significant aspects of the action concerns Telegram's message-editing feature.
Authorities found that some channel administrators were:
Posting harmless messages before the exam.
Editing those messages after the examination.
Replacing attachments with the actual question paper after the test.
Sharing screenshots as fake evidence of a pre-exam paper leak.
Because Telegram retains the original timestamp even after edits, these manipulated posts were being used to falsely claim a NEET 2026 Paper Leak Scam.
To prevent such fabricated evidence, Telegram has been directed to disable editing of previously posted messages in India until 30 June 2026.
NTA acknowledged that millions of Indians use Telegram for legitimate educational, professional, and personal communication.
However, officials emphasized that:
The access restriction is temporary and ends on 22 June 2026.
Ordinary Telegram usage will resume afterward.
The message-editing restriction remains only until 30 June 2026.
Users can continue sending and receiving new messages during the feature-specific restriction period.
NTA has clarified that the Re NEET 2026 Latest Update remains unchanged. The NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam will be conducted on 21 June 2026 as scheduled.
The agency stressed that:
Examination security remains intact.
The restriction is a preventive measure.
No verified paper leak has occurred.
Students should ignore unverified content circulating online.
Candidates are advised to rely only on official NTA communications for examination-related updates.
