The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released the notification for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test [NEET (UG)] 2026. This year, the NTA has introduced several high-tech reforms to the application process to curb impersonation and ensure a transparent examination cycle.
If you are an aspiring medical student, staying updated with these new rules is critical to avoid the rejection of your application.
The most significant change for NEET UG 2026 is the introduction of Aadhaar-based eKYC. Candidates are now required to authenticate their identity electronically during the registration process.
Action Required: Ensure your Aadhaar card is updated with your latest mobile number, as an OTP will be sent for verification.
Data Matching: Your name, date of birth, and gender on the Aadhaar card must exactly match your Class 10/12 certificates.
Security Benefit: This move is designed to eliminate "proxy candidates" and ensure that only genuine aspirants appear for the exam.
Say goodbye to old studio photos. For NEET UG 2026, the NTA has mandated Live Photo Capture during the online application.
How it works: Instead of simply uploading a gallery image, candidates must use a webcam or scan a QR code via smartphone to take a live picture on the portal.
The 80% Rule: Your face must cover 80% of the frame. Ensure you are not wearing caps, tinted glasses, or masks.
Verification: This live photo will be cross-verified with your Aadhaar image and your physical appearance on the day of the exam.
To prevent logistical fraud, the NTA has streamlined how exam cities are allocated.
Address-Linkage: Your choice of examination city and question paper medium will now be strictly based on the Current and Permanent Address provided in your application form.
Priority: Candidates are advised to be extremely precise when filling out their address details, as this will determine the proximity of their exam center.
Before hitting the "Submit" button, ensure your documents meet the 2026 criteria:
Category Certificates: SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS certificates must be current. Specifically, OBC-NCL and EWS certificates should typically be issued after April 1, 2025, to be valid for the 2026-27 session.
UDID Card: PwBD candidates must ensure their UDID (Unique Disability ID) card is updated and valid.
Standard Uploads: Scanned signature (4kb to 30kb) and passport-size photograph (10kb to 200kb) are still required alongside the live photo.
The application window is strictly time-bound. Missing the fee payment deadline will result in an incomplete application.
