National Testing Agency (NTA) has clarified that candidates facing Aadhaar biometric authentication issues during the NEET UG 2026 Re-Examination on June 21 will still be allowed to take the test. The agency has assured students that genuine technical problems during biometric verification will not result in denial of entry to the examination hall.
As part of the exam-day security arrangements, all candidates are required to undergo Aadhaar-based biometric verification before entering their examination rooms. The process is intended to prevent impersonation and ensure the fair conduct of the examination.
Candidates reaching the examination centre will first undergo frisking and admit card verification. They will then complete the registration process, which includes biometric authentication using their Aadhaar details.
NTA has described biometric verification as a mandatory security measure and an important step in maintaining the integrity of the examination process.
According to the agency, biometric authentication may not be completed due to reasons beyond a candidate's control, including:
Technical malfunction of biometric devices
Poor fingerprint quality or unreadable biometric data
Connectivity issues with UIDAI servers
Physical inability to provide biometric details
In such situations, candidates will not be prevented from taking the examination.
Candidates whose Aadhaar biometric verification fails should immediately inform the examination officials present at the centre.
They will then be required to:
Obtain the prescribed undertaking form from the Centre Superintendent
Fill in and submit the undertaking with the required details
Cooperate with any additional manual verification process
Follow instructions issued by examination authorities, including post-exam verification if necessary
The agency has advised candidates to retain any acknowledgement or instructions provided by officials for future reference.
NTA has stated that candidates facing biometric authentication issues will undergo manual identity verification using valid documents and the written undertaking submitted at the centre.
The agency has also clarified that biometric checks, if required, will be carried out before the examination begins or after it concludes. No biometric verification will take place during the examination, ensuring that candidates are not disturbed while attempting the paper.
While genuine technical failures will not affect a candidate's eligibility to appear for the examination, NTA has warned that refusal to undergo biometric verification without a valid and documented reason may be treated as a violation of examination rules.
Such cases may attract action under the provisions of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
The National Testing Agency has advised candidates to remain calm in case of any biometric issues and cooperate fully with examination officials, reiterating that eligible candidates facing genuine verification problems will still be permitted to appear for the NEET UG 2026 Re-Examination.
