Geography plays an outsized role in NEET (UG) outcomes, and the 2026 result confirms Uttar Pradesh's position as India's largest single contributor to the qualified candidate pool — by a wide margin.

Uttar Pradesh alone accounts for roughly 1 in every 7 qualified candidates nationwide, cementing its status as India's largest NEET feeder state — a position it has held consistently in recent cycles.
While Uttar Pradesh leads in absolute numbers, Rajasthan converted 1,33,140 qualifiers from just 1,92,023 appeared candidates — a qualification rate above 69%, among the highest of any large state, and notably higher than Uttar Pradesh's roughly 52% conversion rate. This aligns with Rajasthan producing AIR 3 topper Uplakshya Goyal and multiple candidates in the top 138 rankers list.
At the other end, Union Territories and smaller states like Lakshadweep (43 qualifiers), Daman & Diu (326), and Ladakh (491) highlight how much smaller candidate pools shape both absolute numbers and local competition dynamics — even though, as covered separately, these regions still produced standout state toppers.
Candidates and parents evaluating State Quota (85%) seat competition should factor in their home state's qualifier density relative to available State Quota medical seats — a state like Uttar Pradesh with 1.7 lakh qualifiers competing for a fixed in-state seat pool faces very different odds than a state with a smaller qualifier base and comparable seat capacity.
