It helps to position the anther in the ideal location for pollination , ensuring that the pollen can be transferred to the stigma of the female flower. The length of the filament can vary depending on the species and the flower's structure.

Functions of Stamen

The primary functions of the stamen are:

  • Pollen Production : The anther produces pollen grains, which contain the male gametes (sperm cells). These pollen grains are crucial for fertilization to occur.
  • Pollination : The stamen's position and structure help transfer pollen to the stigma of the female reproductive organ (pistil) or to other flowers, depending on the plant's pollination strategy. Pollination can occur through various agents such as wind, insects, and birds.
