The National Testing Agency has officially cancelled the NEET (UG) 2026 examination conducted on May 3, 2026, creating concern among lakhs of medical aspirants and parents across the country. The decision came after the agency reviewed investigative inputs shared by central agencies and law enforcement authorities regarding the conduct of the examination.
In its official statement, NTA stated that the examination process “could not be allowed to stand” after findings received during the investigation raised concerns over transparency and credibility.
According to the official statement issued by NTA, the cancellation decision followed:
Inputs examined in coordination with central agencies
Findings shared by law enforcement agencies
Concerns regarding transparency in the examination system
The agency stated that allowing the examination process to continue despite the findings could have caused long-term damage to trust in national examinations.
The cancellation decision came with the approval of the Government of India.
NTA stated that the decision has been taken in the interest of students and to protect the credibility of the national examination system.
The agency acknowledged that conducting the examination again may create inconvenience for students and families. However, it maintained that protecting trust in the examination process remained the larger priority.
According to the statement, the alternative could have caused “greater and more lasting damage” to the examination system.
The Government of India has also referred the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation for a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations linked to the examination.
NTA stated that it will fully cooperate with the investigation and provide:
Records
Documents
Materials
Other assistance required during the inquiry
The investigation is expected to examine the allegations and determine the extent of irregularities related to the examination process.
NTA has confirmed that the examination will be re-conducted on fresh dates that will be announced separately.
The agency stated that revised examination dates and the new admit card schedule will be shared through official platforms in the coming days.
Students do not need to submit a new application form for the re-examination.
According to NTA:
Existing registration details remain valid
Candidate data will automatically carry forward
Previously selected examination centres remain applicable
NTA clarified that students do not need to pay any additional examination fee for the re-conducted examination.
The agency also stated that fees already paid by candidates will be refunded while the re-examination process will be managed using NTA’s internal resources.
New admit cards will be released before the re-examination. The revised admit card schedule will be announced later through official NTA channels.
Students and parents have been advised to follow only official updates and avoid relying on unverified information circulating on social media.
The agency has requested candidates and parents to trust only official announcements regarding:

NTA has specifically warned students against believing unofficial social media claims.
