The Central Board of Secondary Education has launched an Online Remote Invigilation Examination (Proctored Assessment) for school counselling and wellness teachers (Socio-Emotional Counsellors) as part of its commitment to strengthening student support systems. The initiative aims to assess and certify approximately 10,000 counsellors across CBSE-affiliated schools in a phased manner, with the first batch already initiated in February 2026.
This forward-looking initiative is designed to ensure counsellors are equipped to support student mental well-being while maintaining professional standards across schools.
CBSE Introduces Online Remote Invigilation Exam for School Counsellors
The assessment goes beyond traditional testing, evaluating counsellors on both skills and practical application. Core objectives include:
Secure and scalable digital assessment delivery
Integrity, consistency, and credibility in evaluation
Equitable access through remote participation
Alignment with national digital education goals and global best practices
The program ensures that counsellors are well-prepared to address the evolving socio-emotional needs of students while promoting familiarity with digital assessment tools.
The examination will be conducted via DIGI-EXAM, an AI-enabled platform that ensures:
Secure, transparent, and standardised evaluation
Remote participation to cover large-scale assessments efficiently
Professional capacity building and quality assurance
This system allows CBSE to carry out phased evaluation without requiring physical test centres, making the process scalable and accessible to all nominated counsellors.
The assessment is mandatory for nominated counselling and wellness teachers (Socio-Emotional Counsellors) of all CBSE-affiliated schools.
Counsellors will be certified based on their performance in the assessment, promoting standardisation of counselling practices across schools.
Schools must ensure that all eligible counsellors participate when nominated by the Board and that their information on the OASIS portal is regularly updated.
This certification will strengthen student support systems, ensuring high-quality counselling services and improving mental health support for students.
The first phase of the assessment began in February 2026
Further phases will cover all eligible counsellors as per Board nomination
Schools must follow official CBSE guidelines for preparation and participation
With student mental health and emotional well-being being a key focus, CBSE’s remote proctored assessment:
Enhances professional capacity and standards of school counsellors
Promotes digital literacy and readiness among counselling professionals
Ensures transparent and equitable assessment
Strengthens the overall student support framework across CBSE schools
