The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has postponed the CTET September 2026 exam. The examination was earlier scheduled to be conducted on September 6, 2026.
The board has now reopened the CTET application window to provide eligible candidates another opportunity to apply. As per the latest notice, the application portal will remain open from August 25 to September 1, 2026.
Importantly, CBSE will announce the revised CTET exam date after the application window closes. Therefore, candidates should not assume September 6 as the examination date.

The postponement is linked to the opportunity being provided to eligible teachers and candidates to comply with the prescribed Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) qualification.
CBSE's notice refers to the Supreme Court judgment in Review Petition (Civil) Diary No. 53434/2025 in Civil Appeal No. 1385/2025, which emphasised the need to provide eligible teachers with a reasonable opportunity to acquire the required TET qualification.
In view of this and the larger interest of candidates, CBSE decided to reopen the application portal.
The board has clarified that the revised CTET examination date will be announced after the application window closes.
Candidates who could not apply during the earlier application window can now submit their applications for the September 2026 edition.
The reopened application window is:
Application begins: August 25, 2026
Application closes: September 1, 2026
New exam date: To be announced
Official website: ctet.nic.in
Candidates should complete the application process before the deadline instead of waiting for the revised exam date.
CBSE has not announced the revised CTET 2026 exam date yet.
The latest notice states that the fresh date for the 22nd edition of CTET will be announced after the application portal closes on September 1, 2026.
Therefore, candidates should wait for the official announcement instead of relying on dates circulating on social media or unofficial websites.
Once announced, the new schedule is expected to include details about:
CTET Paper 1 exam date
CTET Paper 2 exam date
Examination shift and timings
City intimation slip
Admit card release
Exam centre details
The CTET Admit Card 2026 release date has not been announced yet because CBSE is yet to confirm the revised examination schedule.
The board will release the CTET city intimation slip and admit card on the official website after the new exam schedule is finalised.
Candidates should keep their application details and login credentials ready to download these documents once they are released.
The CTET City Intimation Slip 2026 is expected to be released before the admit card. It will help candidates know the city where their examination centre is likely to be located.
The city slip is different from the admit card.
City Intimation Slip: Provides information about the allotted examination city.
Admit Card: Contains the candidate's exam centre address, date, shift, reporting time and other examination-day instructions.
Candidates should carefully check both documents after their release.
The CTET examination consists of two papers. Candidates can appear for the paper according to the level they wish to teach.
Paper 1 is intended for candidates who want to teach Classes 1 to 5.
The paper covers:
Child Development and Pedagogy
Mathematics
Environmental Studies
Language I
Language II
Paper 2 is intended for candidates who want to teach Classes 6 to 8.
The paper covers:
Child Development and Pedagogy

Candidates should check the latest official CTET information bulletin for the detailed syllabus, marking scheme and examination instructions.
With the examination date postponed, candidates should use the additional time for preparation rather than waiting for the new schedule.
Eligible candidates who have not applied should complete the application process before September 1, 2026.
Candidates should continue studying according to the existing syllabus. The postponement provides additional preparation time.
Solve CTET previous year question papers regularly to understand the question pattern and identify important topics.
Mock tests can help improve speed, accuracy and time management before the final examination.
