FAQs
JEE Advanced (Joint Entrance Examination – Advanced) is the gateway to undergraduate programs at all 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Only those who clear JEE Main with a sufficiently high rank are allowed to sit for JEE Advanced. The exam is organized on a rotational basis among the Zonal Coordinating IITs — for 2026, the Organizing Institute is IIT Roorkee.
Admission through JEE Advanced leads to B.Tech., B.S., B.Arch., Dual Degree (B.Tech.–M.Tech.), Integrated M.Tech., and various other combinations, all taught in English across the 23 IITs.

To be eligible for JEE Advanced 2026, Indian nationals and OCI/PIO (I) candidates must simultaneously satisfy all five of the following criteria. Failing even one makes a candidate ineligible.
Candidates must rank among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (including all categories) in the B.E./B.Tech. paper of JEE Main 2026. The category-wise distribution is as follows:
| Category | Number of Candidates | Subtotal |
| OPEN | 96,187 | 1,01,250 |
| OPEN-PwD | 5,063 | |
| GEN-EWS | 23,750 | 25,000 |
| GEN-EWS-PwD | 1,250 | |
| OBC-NCL | 64,125 | 67,500 |
| OBC-NCL-PwD | 3,375 | |
| SC | 35,625 | 37,500 |
| SC-PwD | 1,875 | |
| ST | 17,812 | 18,750 |
| ST-PwD | 938 |
Note: The total may slightly exceed 2,50,000 in case of tied ranks/scores in any category.
Candidates must have been born on or after October 1, 2001. SC, ST, and PwD candidates get a 5-year relaxation — they must have been born on or after October 1, 1996.
A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in two consecutive years. If you appeared in JEE Advanced 2025, 2026 would be your last chance.
You must have appeared in Class XII (or equivalent) for the first time in 2025 or 2026 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
Special Rule: If your Class XII Board declared results for the 2023–24 academic year on or after June 18, 2024, you are also eligible to appear in JEE Advanced 2026, even if your first attempt was in 2024 — provided all other criteria are met.
Candidates who have earlier been admitted to an IIT (irrespective of whether they continued the program or not), accepted a seat through IIT admission in a previous year, or are currently enrolled at an IIT are NOT eligible to appear in JEE Advanced 2026.
