The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the JEE Main 2027 Session 1 examination dates. The exam will begin on January 22, 2027, with papers scheduled on January 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30. With the examination approaching, candidates should now focus on revision, previous year questions, mock tests and improving time management.
For students targeting 99+ percentile, covering high-weightage topics can help in prioritising revision. However, conceptual clarity, accuracy and the ability to solve questions within the available time are also important.
NTA has announced that JEE Main 2027 Session 1 will start on January 22, 2027. The examination will be held on January 22, 23, 24, 28, 29 and 30.
JEE Main 2027 Session 1 registration is expected to begin in the last week of October 2026 through the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in.
With around 100 days remaining, candidates can organise their preparation into three clear stages. Each phase should have a specific objective, helping students move from syllabus completion to intensive practice and final revision.
Stage 1. First 40 Days – Complete and Revise
Focus on completing pending topics and revising the high-weightage chapters. This stage should be used to strengthen the areas that require more attention.
Stage 2. Next 35 Days – Practise and Test
Shift the focus towards practising PYQs and mixed questions. Candidates should also start taking regular mock tests to improve their question-solving approach and exam readiness.
Stage 3. Final 25 Days – Mock Tests and Final Revision
Use the last 25 days for full-length mock tests, analysing mistakes and revising formulas, reactions and short notes. This phase should focus on consolidating the preparation before the examination.
Time management can play an important role in JEE Main because lengthy calculations, especially in Mathematics and Physics, can consume valuable examination time. Spending several minutes on one difficult question may result in candidates missing easier questions.
During mock tests, candidates should practise solving questions within a fixed time limit. Questions that involve lengthy calculations or where the approach is unclear can be marked for review and attempted later.
After every mock test, candidates should analyse:
Questions that took too much time
Calculation mistakes
Conceptual errors
Questions that remained unattempted
Sections that consumed the maximum time
Calculation speed can be improved through regular, targeted practice. Candidates can incorporate the following into their preparation:
Strengthen basic calculations: Practise fractions, percentages, squares, ratios, approximation and scientific notation regularly.
Apply shortcuts with caution: Standard formula-based approaches and shortcuts can be useful for frequently asked question types, but accuracy should not be compromised.
Cut down unnecessary steps: After solving PYQs, review the solution and check whether a shorter approach was possible.
Solve PYQs against the clock: Assign a fixed time to previous year questions and gradually work towards reducing the solving time while maintaining accuracy.
Move ahead when required: A difficult or lengthy question does not always need to be solved immediately. Attempt questions that can be solved confidently and return to the more time-consuming ones later.
The remaining preparation period should be used strategically. Students can begin by clearing pending topics and revising the identified high-weightage chapters. The next phase should bring more PYQ and mixed-question practice, followed by increasingly regular mock tests.
As the examination approaches, full-length mocks, mistake analysis and revision of formulas, reactions and short notes should become the focus.
The key is to combine chapter prioritisation with conceptual understanding, question-solving practice, accuracy and speed. With the Session 1 examination beginning on January 22, 2027, candidates should use the remaining preparation window in a structured manner.
