Candidates allotted seats in Round 2 can complete online reporting — including seat acceptance fee payment, document upload, and responding to verification queries — from June 30 to July 3, 2026, up to 5 pm. The last date to pay the seat acceptance fee is July 3 by 5 pm, while fee payment-related issues will be resolved on July 4, 2026, until 5 pm.
Candidates allotted a seat must choose one of three options:
| JoSAA Counselling 2026 Round 2: Reporting and Fee Payment | |
| Option | What It Means |
| Freeze | Accept the seat finally; exit further rounds |
| Float | Accept current seat but remain open to upgrade in later rounds |
| Slide | Stay within the same institute but seek a better branch |
Important: Always select Float or Slide if you want to stay in the process for a better option — never leave the choice unanswered, as this can cancel your candidature for the round.
Candidates wishing to withdraw from the seat allotment process can initiate the withdrawal request between July 1 (10 am) and July 3 (5 pm). The last date to respond to withdrawal-related queries and other Round 2 verification queries is July 5, 2026, by 5 pm.
Once the Round 2 result is announced, JoSAA will also publish the updated opening and closing ranks for every participating institute, branch, and category. Students can use this data to gauge their position before the next round.
Opening rank = the first rank at which allotment begins in a category for a course
Closing rank = the last rank up to which seats were allotted in that round
Opening/Closing ranks for Open seats represent the Common Rank List (CRL); for EWS, OBC-NCL, SC and ST seats, they represent respective category ranks
These ranks can be checked directly on the official JoSAA Opening and Closing Rank portal under the candidate login section.
JoSAA 2026 has five rounds of seat allotment in total. According to the official schedule, the Round 3 seat allotment result is expected on July 3, 2026. Candidates who freeze or float their Round 2 seat will automatically be considered for Round 3 allotment based on their locked choices.
