JoSAA Counselling 2026: The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) has announced the Round 1 seat allotment result for Counselling 2026, marking the beginning of the admission process for candidates seeking seats in IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs).
Candidates who have received a seat allotment must now complete several important admission formalities within the prescribed deadlines to retain their seats and remain eligible for future counselling rounds.
Candidates should first log in to the official JoSAA portal and review their allotted institute and programme. They should carefully verify all details before proceeding with the admission process.
After accepting the allotted seat, candidates must select one of the following options:
Candidates satisfied with their allotted institute and branch can choose Freeze. This option confirms the seat and removes the candidate from subsequent counselling rounds.
Candidates who wish to retain their current seat while remaining eligible for higher-preference choices in future rounds can select Float.
This option allows candidates to keep their allotted institute but seek admission to a more preferred branch within the same institute during later rounds.
Candidates must pay the Seat Acceptance Fee (SAF) to confirm their participation in the counselling process.
General, EWS and OBC-NCL candidates: ₹30,000
SC, ST, PwD and other reserved category candidates: ₹15,000
Failure to pay the fee before the deadline will result in cancellation of the allotted seat.
Students are required to upload the necessary documents for online verification. These typically include:
JEE Main/JEE Advanced Admit Card
Rank Card
Class 10 and Class 12 Mark Sheets
Category Certificate (if applicable)
PwD Certificate (if applicable)
Passport-sized Photograph
Valid Identity Proof
Candidates should ensure that all uploaded documents are clear and accurate.
During document verification, authorities may raise queries if additional clarification or documents are required.
Candidates must regularly check their JoSAA portal and respond promptly to any requests to avoid delays in admission processing.
Last date for online reporting
Last date for document upload
Last date for Seat Acceptance Fee payment
Resolution of fee payment issues for candidates who attempted payment before the deadline
Final date to respond to document verification queries
Once Round 1 reporting concludes, JoSAA will process seat upgrades and fresh allocations based on candidate preferences, vacant seats, and merit ranks.
Candidates who choose Float or Slide may receive upgraded seats in subsequent rounds, while those selecting Freeze will retain their current allotment and will not be considered for further seat allocation.
Students are advised to monitor the official JoSAA website regularly for Round 2 seat allotment schedules and counselling updates.
