UGC NET June 2026 Re-Exam: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the re-conduct of the UGC NET June 2026 examination for English, Commerce and Sociology after a committee identified factual, typographical, translation and other errors in the question papers. The UGC NET re-exam will be conducted in September 2026, and candidates will not have to pay any additional examination fee.
The UGC NET June 2026 examination was originally conducted from June 22 to June 30, 2026, across 87 subjects for determining eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), Assistant Professor and PhD admission.
Following complaints from candidates regarding errors in the English, Commerce and Sociology question papers, NTA constituted a committee to review the matter. The committee identified multiple issues, including errors in wording, translation, grammar, punctuation and factual details.
As a result, NTA has decided to conduct the UGC NET 2026 re-exam for these three subjects.
Candidates appearing for the affected subjects should carefully note the UGC NET re-exam schedule:
| UGC NET 2026 Re-Exam Date and Shift Timings | |||
| Subject | Re-Exam Date | Shift | Exam Timing |
| English | September 9, 2026 | Shift 1 | 9 AM to 12 Noon |
| Commerce | September 9, 2026 | Shift 2 | 3 PM to 6 PM |
| Sociology | September 10, 2026 | Shift 1 | 9 AM to 12 Noon |
The UGC NET 2026 exam city details, examination centres and admit cards will be released separately by NTA on its official website.
The UGC NET re-examination has been announced after NTA received several complaints about errors in the question papers of English, Commerce and Sociology.
The committee examining the complaints found issues such as:
Factual errors in questions
Typographical mistakes
Translation-related errors
Incorrect or distorted names of scholars
Errors in book titles
Problems with question wording
Grammatical mistakes
Gender and number agreement errors
Punctuation-related issues
Non-standard terms for established concepts
Repetition of questions asked in previous examinations
Based on the committee's findings, NTA decided that the three affected papers should be conducted again.
No. Candidates appearing for the UGC NET 2026 re-examination for English, Commerce or Sociology will not be required to pay any additional examination fee.
Candidates should, however, keep checking the official NTA website for further instructions regarding the re-examination.
NTA has clarified that the re-conduct of the three subjects will not delay the UGC NET results for the remaining 84 subjects.
This means candidates who appeared for subjects other than English, Commerce and Sociology can continue to wait for their results as per the NTA's result schedule.
For determining eligibility for Assistant Professor, NTA has clarified that the number of candidates qualifying will be equivalent to 6% of the candidates who appeared in the June 2026 examination or re-test, whichever is higher.
For English, Commerce and Sociology, the allocation for:
Junior Research Fellowship (JRF)
Assistant Professor eligibility
PhD admission
will be carried out according to the provisions of the UGC NET Information Bulletin.
NTA has also clarified that the number of seats or candidates already allocated to these subjects will not be reduced after the re-examination.
The UGC NET 2026 re-exam admit card for English, Commerce and Sociology has not been released yet. NTA will announce the details regarding the examination city, centre and admit card separately.
Candidates should regularly check the official NTA website for updates rather than relying on unofficial sources.
Once released, candidates should download their UGC NET admit card 2026 and check details such as:
Candidate name
Roll number
Subject
Exam date
Shift and reporting time
Examination centre
Important instructions
Any discrepancy should be reported to NTA through the official communication channels.
Candidates appearing for the UGC NET re-exam should use the additional preparation time carefully. Since the examination is being conducted again, candidates should revise the complete syllabus instead of preparing only for questions from the earlier paper.
Revising the complete UGC NET syllabus for their subject.
Practising previous-year question papers to understand the exam pattern.
Taking mock tests under timed conditions.
Revising important concepts and factual topics from both Paper 1 and the relevant subject paper.
Checking official NTA updates regarding the exam city slip and admit card.
Avoiding unofficial information about changes in the exam pattern unless confirmed by NTA.
