UP Special TET 2026 Notification Out: Registration Opens Tomorrow, Exam on November 3

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission has released the UP Special TET 2026 notification under Advertisement No. 03/2026, dated September 3, 2026. Online applications open tomorrow, September 5, on the commission's website, upessc.up.gov.in, and close on October 4. The examination is scheduled for November 3, 2026.

The single most important thing to understand about this notification, and the point on which most confusion is already circulating, is who it is for.

UP Special TET: who is eligible

This is not a recruitment exam and it is not open to fresh job-seekers. The Special TET has been notified as a mandatory eligibility test for teachers who are already in service, following a Supreme Court direction requiring serving teachers to clear the teacher eligibility test.

Two groups fall within its scope:

Serving teachers at primary and upper primary level in government and aided schools in Uttar Pradesh, who are already working but have not cleared a teacher eligibility test.

CWSN special educators working on a contract or daily-wage basis, holding the prescribed qualification and valid RCI registration.

Candidates who are not currently serving in one of these capacities are not covered by this notification. Those looking to become eligible for fresh teacher recruitment in Uttar Pradesh come under the regular UPTET route conducted by the same commission, which is a separate examination with a separate cycle.

Several aggregator sites have already begun listing this as a general recruitment opening with graduation and D.El.Ed or B.Ed as the entry qualification. Serving teachers should read the eligibility clause in the official notification PDF before paying the fee, because a fee paid on a misread eligibility condition is not refunded.

The correction window is short and it is the only opportunity to fix an error in a submitted form. Candidates should not treat it as a buffer for late application — it is for editing, not for applying.

Application fee

Rs 1,000 for General, OBC and EWS candidates
Rs 500 for SC and ST candidates
Rs 300 for PwBD candidates

The same fee applies at both the primary and upper primary levels.

Exam pattern and qualifying marks

The paper carries 150 marks. There is no negative marking, which changes the strategy materially — no question should be left unattempted.

Qualifying threshold:
1. 90 out of 150, or 60 per cent, for General and Unreserved candidates

2 out of 150, or 55 per cent, for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, dependents of freedom fighters, ex-servicemen and PwBD candidates

Separate papers apply to the primary level and the upper primary level. Candidates should apply for the level corresponding to the post they currently hold. Detailed syllabus documents for each level are published alongside the notification on the commission's website.

Age limit

The upper age limit for this examination is 60 years, consistent with its purpose as an eligibility test for teachers already in service rather than a fresh recruitment exam.

How to apply for UP Special TET 2026

1. Go to upessc.up.gov.in.

2. Complete the One Time Registration if you have not already. OTR is mandatory before any application can be filed with the commission, and it is the step candidates most often discover too late.

3. Log in with the OTR credentials.

4. Select UP Special TET 2026 and the applicable level, primary or upper primary.

5. Fill in personal, service and educational details, and upload the photograph, signature and required certificates in the prescribed formats.

6. Pay the fee online before October 4.

7. Download and save the submitted application and the payment receipt.

Serving teachers should keep their service details and appointment particulars ready before starting, as these fields are what distinguish this application from a general one.

What clearing it means

The Special TET is an eligibility test. Qualifying it satisfies the eligibility requirement flowing from the court direction; it is not itself a selection or promotion process, and it does not by itself alter a serving teacher's post or pay. Candidates should read the notification's own wording on consequences and timelines rather than relying on interpretations circulating on social media, since this is precisely the point where misinformation tends to concentrate around court-mandated eligibility exercises.
