AIIMS NORCET 8 Mains Rank 92 Topper Bilal Bashir’s Success Story with PW

Preparing for a competitive nursing exam while working a demanding job can be challenging, especially when only a short time is left before the examination. Bilal Bashir’s journey to AIIMS NORCET 8 Mains Rank 92 shows how he approached this situation with focused preparation and determination.

After completing his bachelor's in 2023, Bilal worked as a staff nurse in the emergency department at Apollo Hospital. His initial plan was to gain experience and go abroad, but when recruitment stopped, he started considering NORCET after encouragement from a senior who had cleared the exam.

His journey from preparing alongside work to securing a rank among the top 100 offers useful lessons for nursing aspirants.

How Bilal Bashir Started His NORCET Journey

Bilal completed his bachelor's in 2023 in Goa. He was interested in working in trauma and emergency care. He joined Apollo Hospital as a staff nurse and worked in the emergency department for about a year.

While working, he started exploring NORCET after a senior who had cleared the exam suggested that he should try it.

"To tab main kaam bhi karta tha to wahan par thak jaate the to aake thoda sa padh leta tha aur ek video dekhta tha to tab interest aaya to tab maine baad mein padhna start kiya."

This initial preparation happened alongside his job. However, as the 2025 prelims approached, Bilal decided to leave his job and return home to prepare full-time.

Bilal Bashir’s Two-Month Focused Preparation

Bilal resigned from Apollo Hospital in February 2025, when less than two months were left for the prelims. He then stayed at home and devoted his time almost entirely to preparation.

"Jab main ghar aaya hoon tab se prelims ke din tak main apne room mein raha hoon. Main bahar gaya hi nahi. Main ek bhi matlab apne gate maine khola nahi."

He studied the lectures at 1.5x speed and made his own notes in a way that was easy for him to understand and revise. Rather than trying to follow someone else's note-making style, he focused on creating notes that worked specifically for him.

At first, he was unsure whether two months of preparation would be enough. The result changed that confidence.

When his prelims result showed 99.64 percentile, Bilal realised that his focused preparation had made a difference.

How Bilal Bashir Stayed Focused for the Mains

After clearing the prelims, Bilal had only around 20 days before the mains. This created anxiety because he was unsure how he would perform in the next stage.

Instead of allowing that uncertainty to affect his preparation, he decided to maintain a positive mindset.

"Baat mein aisa main khud ko but chill rakha ki nahi yaar jab prelims nikla to mains mein to main karke hi aaunga."

Even though he had other examinations and had to travel for them, he kept reminding himself about the importance of his mains preparation. Before leaving for an exam, he noticed the trophies he had received during college and used those past achievements to regain confidence.

He appeared for the mains and attempted 147 questions out of 150, with around 27–30 questions incorrect, as mentioned during the interview. He then secured All India Rank 92.

Bilal Bashir’s Approach to Notes and Effective Study

A major part of Bilal’s preparation was making notes according to his own understanding instead of collecting multiple sources.

"Mera notes kisi aur ko samajh nahi aayega. Matlab notes aise banata tha ki phatphat karke poora matlab kar diya 2 mahine mein."

His preparation also involved identifying the study conditions that worked for him. Bilal explained that effective study mattered more to him than simply spending a fixed number of hours at a desk.

He also created memory tricks for topics that he found difficult to remember. For example, he made his own tricks for remembering essential amino acids, including sequences in Kashmiri, so that they would come back to him during the examination.

How PW Supported Bilal Bashir’s Preparation

PW had been part of Bilal’s learning journey even before his focused NORCET preparation. He recalled watching PW teachers' videos from Classes 10 and 12, when the content was primarily available through YouTube.

A significant moment came after Bilal appeared for the ESIC exam. Although he was selected, he was far from the final cut-off. He then received a call from PW offering him a free batch.

"Mereko Physics Wallah se call aaya ki hum aapko free batch provide karaenge. So at that time it felt really good ki there is someone ki jo aapko chahta hai ki aap padho. Aap kuch karo."

During his NORCET preparation, Bilal says he completed his preparation through PW, including theory and YouTube sessions. He also specifically appreciated the content provided by PW Nursing teachers.

"PW ke teacher jo pehla hi mereko content laga wo bahut accha tha aur sir aap bhi aapne jab pharmacology maine aapse padhi to aap usmein directly mention kar rahe the aisa beta exam mein aaya hua hai question hai ye yaad rakh lo."

For Bilal, the value of learning from experienced teachers was connected to learning from their previous experience rather than trying to figure everything out independently.

What Bilal Bashir Wants Aspirants to Learn

Bilal's experience was not free from self-doubt. During his preparation, he often wondered whether he would be able to succeed among so many candidates.

"Mereko jab main prelims ke liye padh raha tha mereko lagta tha hazaar baar dimaag mein aaya tha ki yaar itne log hain mera hi kaise hoga."

His approach was to continue preparing even when such thoughts appeared.

He also emphasised that aspirants need to understand their own requirements rather than blindly copying someone else's timetable. For him, sufficient sleep and distraction-free study were important. He explained that when he studied, he kept his attention on the books and avoided distractions such as social media.

His message for aspirants was simple: difficult phases are a part of the journey, but giving up at that point can stop progress.

Learnings from Bilal Bashir’s AIIMS NORCET 8 Mains Journey

Bilal's journey highlights a few practical lessons for nursing aspirants:

  • Start with the resources and study approach that work for you.

  • Make notes that you can understand and revise easily.

  • Focus on effective study instead of only counting study hours.

  • Keep distractions away during dedicated study sessions.

  • Use personal achievements as a source of confidence during difficult phases.

  • Continue preparing even when self-doubt appears.

  • Maintain consistency, hard work, and dedication throughout the preparation.

Bilal's journey from preparing alongside a demanding job to securing AIIMS NORCET 8 Mains Rank 92 shows how focused effort and consistency can help an aspirant move forward even when the preparation window is short.
