Anjali A Singh secured Rank 1 in the Bihar Staff Nurse exam after preparing alongside a job and tuition responsibilities. A nursing graduate from Shri Vinoba Bhave College of Nursing, Silvassa, she had already started preparing for competitive nursing exams before finding a more structured approach through PW Nursing.
Her preparation focused on limited but focused study hours, regular revision, MCQ practice, note-making, and analysing mistakes. She also used PW’s classes, Nursing Test Pass, and question practice to strengthen her preparation and identify the topics that required more attention.
Anjali had already started studying for competitive exams, but she felt that her earlier preparation lacked the direction she needed. PW’s marathon classes gave her the motivation to take her preparation more seriously.
“Pehle main aur dusri coachings bhi li thi par mujhe utna satisfied nahi laga. But PW se matlab padh ke mujhe aisa laga ki padhana matlab yeh hai ki padhate sab hai par padhna kaise hai wo PW sikhata hai ki haan aapko kaun se point pakadne hain kaun se nahi pakadne hain kya padhna hai kya strategy rakhni hai wo saari cheezein.”
This change was not limited to attending classes. Anjali began working on how she approached the syllabus—making notes, separating important points and creating lists to keep her preparation organised.
“To wahan se maine phir padhna shuru kiya aur full coaching maine ek batch liya to batch se maine dheere-dheere karke padhna shuru kiya phir maine iske liye strategy banayi ki nahi aise nahi aise padhna hai waise phir iske notes banane hain. Kaise important points separate karne hain. Uske list banana hai. Uske baad ek-ek karke uske upar focus karti gayi.”
This approach gave her a clearer preparation framework, which became important as she moved towards the Bihar Staff Nurse examination.
Anjali’s preparation was not based on spending the entire day with books. She was already working and also took tuition classes because of her financial circumstances. This meant that her available study time was limited, making focused preparation particularly important.
“Sir hours matter nahi karte hain but aap agar do ghante ya teen ghante bhi de rahe ho to aap puri tarike se do. Focused study matter karti hai.”
Her routine generally gave her dedicated study time after her work and tuition responsibilities. Instead of measuring preparation only by the number of hours, she focused on what she could actually accomplish during those hours.
“4:00 baje ke baad phir ghar aake matlab financial condition thodi achhi nahi thi to tuitions bhi lene the to bachchon ke tuitions lete the. Phir 6:30 baje ke baad jo time milta tha to phir wo hum pura apna study ko dete the.”
For Anjali, the key was to make those limited hours productive rather than simply increasing the number of hours spent studying.
Anjali found PW useful not only for understanding what to study but also for practising questions and checking her preparation regularly. Along with the classes, she used the Nursing Test Pass, solved questions shared on PW’s WhatsApp channel, and used the explanations of incorrect answers to identify and correct her mistakes.
“Ji ji sir mock test diya tha maine. Phir hamara jo Nursing Test Pass hai wo bhi maine liya tha. To uske bhi maine jitne bhi questions ho rahe the CHO ho ya phir alag-alag state ke CHO ke ho, RRB ke ho maine usmein se question solve kiye the. Hamara PW ka jo WhatsApp channel hai us par jo question aate the to us par hum kar rahe the.”
These resources gave her additional opportunities to practise questions from different nursing examinations. More importantly, Anjali did not stop at checking whether an answer was right or wrong. Whenever she got a question wrong, she noted the reason and compared her understanding with the given rationale.
“Aur wahan par agar koi bhi question incorrect hota to phir wo hum note kar lete the ki humara yahan pe kyun galat hua uska rationale humko milta tha to hum uske neeche likh dete the ki haan is wajah se maine kya concept lagaya tha usmein kya concept bataya hai.”
This made her PW-based practice more than just question-solving it became a way to identify weak areas, understand mistakes, and make corrections before the actual examination.
While preparing, Anjali identified Pharmacology as one of the areas where she needed additional work, particularly when questions were based on case scenarios. She worked on this weakness through classes, tricks, and mnemonics.
“Mera weaker keh sakte hain to Pharma mujhe thodi weak lagti thi jahan mujhe aisa lagta hai not in the case of drug calculation but kis ka matlab kab matlab hota hai ki agar ye is case scenario wise jab case scenario hota tha na to usmein main thodi si dagmaga jaati thi. To uske liye mujhe Chandan sir ki classes ne bahut madad mili hai.”
Alongside strengthening weaker areas, she followed a repeated-revision approach. Rather than expecting herself to remember something after one reading, she revisited topics after a few days and combined revision with MCQ practice.
“Main ye cheez bolti hoon ki aaj agar maine jo cheez padhi hai to wo third day revise karna hai. Phir seventh day wapas revise karna hai. Aur jis-jis din hum revise kar rahe hain na to us din hum log ko MCQ bhi karte jaana hai.”
This combination of revision and questions helped her reinforce concepts instead of relying only on memorisation.
Her preparation eventually translated into a strong examination performance. In the 100-mark paper, Anjali attempted 91 questions and later received a score of 78 after negative marking. She explained that most of the questions she attempted were ones she felt confident about.
“Out of 100 maine 91 questions attempt kiye the aur 91 mein se exact to mujhe yaad nahi ki kitne incorrect hue the aur haan, but itna yaad hai ki maine 91 questions attempt kiye the aur usmein se maximum ye the jo main confident thi.”
Her mock-test practice also played a role in identifying mistakes. She solved questions from different nursing examinations and noted down the reasoning behind questions she got wrong.
“Aur wahan par agar koi bhi question incorrect hota to phir wo hum note kar lete the ki humara yahan pe kyun galat hua uska rationale humko milta tha to hum uske neeche likh dete the ki haan is wajah se maine kya concept lagaya tha usmein kya concept bataya hai to us tareeke se jahan-jahan galat ho rahe the to us pe hum matlab rationale likh ke hum apna correction kar rahe the.”
The result was beyond even what she had expected. When the result PDF was released, Anjali initially struggled to believe that she had secured the first rank.
“Believe hi nahi ho raha tha sir. Believe hi nahi ho raha tha.”
She checked the PDF and her roll number multiple times before finally calling her parents. Her first call went to her father, who then shared the news with her mother.
Looking back at her preparation, Anjali believes consistency, focused study and regular question practice are more important than simply counting study hours. She also emphasises maintaining a clear separation between work and preparation for aspirants studying alongside a job.
“Aap ye nahi karo ki aaj hum kya padhe. Aapko jo topic mil raha hai aap padhte jao. Uske MCQ solve karte jao.”
For working aspirants, she recommends giving full attention to the task at hand instead of trying to combine work and studying simultaneously.
“Aap agar kaam kar rahe ho to phir us samay kaam hi karo. Apne dimaag mein ye cheez confusion mat bithaao. Aur uske baad jo aap ghar aane ke baad jo aap time de rahe ho agar aap do ghante de rahe ho teen ghante de rahe ho to wo focused hour rakho.”
She also cautions aspirants against becoming overconfident after performing well in practice.
“To overconfident nahi hona hai. Kahin na kahin humko reality check milta hai. To isliye hamesha apne ko ek level to theek hai. Haan hum kar sakte hain. Itna tak theek hai. Hum kar hi denge. Ye cheez sahi nahi hai.”
Anjali A Singh’s journey shows that securing a top rank does not necessarily require studying for the longest hours. Her preparation combined limited but focused study time with structured guidance, repeated revision, MCQ practice and consistency. For aspirants balancing work, financial responsibilities or other challenges, her story offers a practical reminder that steady preparation can turn limited time into meaningful progress.
