Preparing for a competitive nursing examination while completing an internship can be challenging. For Mohammad Arif from Srinagar, Kashmir, the journey involved starting from the basics while managing his internship duties.
Arif began his preparation during his internship and joined PW Nursing Wallah's NORCET 10 Regular batch. He followed the classes, made handwritten notes, practised MCQs, and gradually started taking mock tests. His efforts helped him secure AIR 50 in NORCET 11 Mains in his first attempt.
Mohammad Arif began preparing for NORCET during his nursing internship. When asked how long he had been preparing and when he completed his BSc Nursing, he explained that this was his first attempt and described his degree timeline. His internship was running at the end of his degree, and he did not wait for it to finish before starting. He began preparing as soon as the internship began.
“Toh jaise internship hamari start hui, toh us dauran hi maine apni preparation start kar di thi ma’am.”
Arif chose PW Nursing Wallah’s NORCET 10 Regular batch. He clearly remembered the launch date, 18 August, and said a friend told him the batch had launched and asked him to check it out. The friend joined along with him.
“Mujhe poora yaad hai, 18 August ko PW ka NORCET 10 Regular batch launch hua tha. Usne mujhe bola tha ki batch launch ho gaya, tu dekh le. Usne bhi mere saath hi join kiya.”
After exploring the batch, they started their classes together, and Arif continued with the batch from there.
Arif's internship included morning and night duties. This made it difficult to attend every class live, but he tried to complete his classes on the same day. When his duties prevented him from attending live sessions, he studied after returning home or at night.
He explained how he managed his classes around his schedule.
"Lekin jaise hi time milta tha duty se aake, ya night hoti, toh phir main night mein classes apni complete kar deta tha."
He also described how he made sure his classes did not remain incomplete.
"Din mein duty hoti thi, toh isiliye main raat mein main apni classes complete kar leta tha."
His routine required flexibility and regular effort. Rather than allowing his internship schedule to stop his preparation, he adjusted his study time to complete the lessons.
Arif said he started his NORCET preparation from zero because his college studies had not prepared him for the examination's specific requirements. He used PW Nursing Wallah to build his theoretical understanding and made handwritten notes for individual subjects.
He explained where he studied the theoretical portion.
"Theoretical part toh maine poora PW se kiya."
He further described how he built his foundation through the classes.
"Maine poora zero se start kiya hai ma'am, kyunki college ke time pe toh waise koi NORCET level ki preparation hoti nahi hai. Toh maine poora zero se saare basics start kiye. Sabse pehle maine PW ka hi batch liya hai."
Alongside the lectures, Arif prepared handwritten notes for subjects such as OBG, paediatrics, community health, and pharmacology. He studied each lecture, understood the concepts, and wrote notes for every subject.
He also shared that Ritu Ma'am's teaching and motivational approach encouraged him during his preparation. He had first watched her classes on YouTube and appreciated the way she explained concepts and motivated students.
Arif did not begin mock tests immediately. Since he was starting with limited knowledge of NORCET-level questions, he first focused on understanding the basics. He then practised MCQs related to the topics taught in class and started mock tests after completing half the syllabus.
He described his initial approach to MCQ practice.
"Toh pehle toh basic se maine start kiya. Jaise koi topic aaj class mein padh liya, toh pehle main Target High se us same topic ke MCQs kar leta tha."
As his preparation progressed, he added mock tests to his routine and analysed his performance. This helped him combine theoretical learning with question practice instead of depending on theory alone.
He also highlighted why MCQ practice was important for competitive examinations.
"Kyunki ma'am ne hamesha class mein bataya, aapne bataya ki jitna zaroori hamare liye theory hai, usse zyada zaroori hamare MCQs hain."
His approach gradually moved from understanding basic concepts to practising questions and analysing mock test performance.
Mohammad Arif secured AIR 50 in NORCET 11 Mains in his first attempt. He achieved this result after starting his preparation from the basics while managing his nursing internship.
His preparation included completing classes around duty hours, making handwritten notes, practising topic-wise MCQs, and beginning mock tests after covering half the syllabus. He also analysed his mock test performance and maintained consistency despite his busy schedule.
Looking back at his preparation, Arif emphasised consistency. He acknowledged that difficulties can arise during preparation, particularly when students have other responsibilities. However, he believed that continuing to study, even on difficult days, was important.
He shared his main advice for students preparing for competitive examinations.
"Toh sabse pehle toh sabse basic cheez jo hai, agar koi bhi student competitive exam ke liye prepare kar raha hai, toh sabse zaroori cheez usko maintain karni hai, woh consistency hai."
He also explained that difficulties during preparation should not become a reason to stop attending classes.
"Lekin ma'am, aisa nahi hai ki maine classes lena chhod diya. Ye difficulties har ek ke paas aati hain."
Arif also stressed the importance of internal motivation. He explained that external motivation may last only a few days, so students need to maintain their own motivation and confidence throughout preparation.
For future NORCET aspirants, Arif's journey offers a practical reminder: starting from the basics, staying consistent, and making time for question practice can be important parts of preparing for a competitive examination.
