Rima De from West Bengal secured AIR 110 in AIIMS NORCET 9. Her journey shows how consistent preparation and better revision can improve performance even after an earlier selection.
Rima had already qualified NORCET 8 with a rank of 148, but her joining was delayed. Instead of stopping her preparation, she continued studying because she wanted a seat closer to home. Her second attempt brought her a much better rank of 110.
Rima started preparing seriously for NORCET in 2024. She had appeared for NORCET 6 without much preparation because she only came to know about the AIIMS nursing examination during her fourth year.
Talking about how her preparation began, Rima said
“Maine preparation start kiya tha 2024 se. Matlab NORCET 6 aise hi de diya tha. Matlab tab utna preparation nahi tha kyunki fourth year mein hi pata chala ki AIIMS ki aise exam hota hai.”
After that, she started preparing more seriously and worked on building her understanding of the subjects. This became the starting point of her journey towards her first NORCET selection.
Rima began her preparation with PW and used the Arogyam Batch and Night Angle Batch. She credited the PW faculty for helping her understand concepts from the basic level and for teaching techniques that later helped her solve MCQs.
She said,
“Maine start kiya preparation aur maine chalu hi kiya tha PW se. Matlab I have joined PW Arogyam Batch, then PW Nightingale Batch. Then sir, sabhi teachers ne bahut saara guidance diya aur main isiliye yahan tak pahunch paayi hoon.”
She also explained how the PW classes helped her strengthen weak concepts
“Basic se itna achhe se padhaya hai sab kuch, matlab sab koi, sab subject bahut basic se, from the basic clear ho gaya tha poora ekdum. Jo basic clear nahi the, woh chhote-chhote cheez sab clear ho gaye the.”
For MCQ practice, she specifically remembered the techniques taught in PW YouTube classes.
“Sir logon ne bahut achhe se woh cover kiya apne YouTube classes se. Sir, main class mein bahut saare matlab aise technique sir batate the, aap batate the, woh bahut help hua.”
Rima had already reached a rank of 148 in NORCET 8, but she identified insufficient revision as one of the areas she needed to improve. Earlier, she focused on solving new MCQs but did not revise the questions she had already completed properly.
For NORCET 9, she changed this approach and gave more importance to repeated revision of notes, weak areas and previously attempted questions.
Rima explained,
“Maine pichhli baar jo galti ki thi, mujhe lagta hai mera revision thoda kam hua tha. Main matlab I used to think ki main ek MCQ karun, bahut saara karun, phir naya karun. Matlab jo pichhle wale matlab kare the, woh revise nahi kar paayi thi main NORCET 8 ke pehle.”
She added,
“Toh is baar maine jo strategy change kiya tha ki mujhe matlab mujhe jo aata hai, main pehle woh revise karun poora. Toh maine is baar poora revise kiya tha. Jo maine padha tha, mera notes jo tha, jis portion mein mera weak tha, woh saara maine baar-baar revise kiya.”
This change helped her avoid constantly moving towards new questions without revisiting what she had already studied.
Along with revision, Rima regularly practised questions through mock tests and previous-year papers. She attempted around 40–50 mock tests before the examination and also solved previous-year questions multiple times.
She said,
“Maine test bhi diye the aur previous year ka jo milta questions, woh maine bahut saare baar matlab mains ke pehle maine previous year kiya tha.”
Talking about her mock-test practice, she added,
“40-50 toh mock test kiye hi the.”
Rima also maintained a record of the mistakes she made during tests.
“Test series tha, test diya, usmein se jo galtiyan hui woh main likh ke rakhti thi, record karke rakhti thi. Toh woh galti se maine seekha aur phir usko revise karke maine is baar diya.”
This allowed her to turn mistakes from mock tests into revision points instead of repeating them in the actual examination.
Rima attempted 148 questions in NORCET 9. She did not restrict herself only to questions where she was completely certain. When she was confused between two options, she sometimes used elimination and took a calculated risk.
She explained,
“Maine toh 148 kiya tha attempt. Kyunki main haan, mera tha ki jo matlab do option mein confuse hai, woh thoda risk le, maine kiya tha aur jo matlab sure hai woh toh kiya hi tha.”
She also credited the elimination techniques she learned through PW classes for helping her attempt questions where she was not fully sure.
Rima said,
“Elimination se bhi maine bahut saare question aise, mujhe pata nahi tha, shayad iska hi answer hoga. Lekin maine baaki saare option ko eliminate karke woh maine kiya hai. Aisa maine bahut saare questions kiya hai aise.”
She had 29 incorrect answers among her attempts, showing how even a small difference in marks could affect the final rank in a competitive examination.
Rima had already qualified NORCET 8 with a rank of 148, but her joining at AIIMS Patna was delayed. Instead of waiting without preparation, she continued studying because she wanted to secure a seat closer to her home.
She said,
“Mere ko bhi lag raha tha NORCET pe ki nahi hoga. Abhi thode se rank mein reh rahe hain, lekin maine nahi join kiya aur maine kisi jagah pe join nahi kiya, aise chhod ke.”
She had already decided to continue preparing even if her previous selection resulted in a joining.
“Main phir sochi ki nahi ho jayega, main padhun thoda sa aur. Aur 8 ke baad toh mujhe tab bhi agar padhne mein joining bhi ho jaati, toh bhi main padhti, kyunki mujhe chahiye tha ki main ghar ke paas aaoon.”
This continued preparation eventually helped her secure AIR 110 in NORCET 9.
When the NORCET 9 result was released, Rima initially could not believe that she had secured AIR 110. She checked the PDF multiple times and even sent it to her friends and brother before accepting that the result was correct.
She recalled,
“Pehli baat toh matlab main jab result aaya, main bahar thi, matlab bahar aise mummy ke saath thoda bahar nikli thi. Maine raste mein dekha result aaya toh I was literally trembling. Matlab mera haath-paanv poora kaamp rahe the.”
She added,
“Maine socha ki ye galat PDF hoga shayad. Maine roll number dala aur dekha 110. Phir maine socha ye shayad group mein kuch galat PDF aa gaya hoga. Phir dobara check kiya, phir mere jo friend hain unko bheja, phir bhai ko bheja.”
After everyone confirmed the result, her family was extremely happy. Rima said,
“Phir mummy-papa bahut khush hain. Matlab bahut hi zyada didi bhi bahut khush hai, jijju sab log, sab koi hi bahut khush hai.”
She also highlighted the support she received throughout her preparation.
“Mere ghar mein mummy-papa ne bahut support kiya. Har time matlab jab bhi exam hota tha mummy-papa dono leke jaate the mere ko. Toh har time saath diya.”
Rima believes that aspirants who miss selection by a few marks or face a setback should not stop preparing. Her own journey from NORCET 7 to NORCET 8 and then AIR 110 in NORCET 9 taught her the importance of patience and consistency.
She said,
“Main toh yahi bolna chahungi ki patience rakho. Matlab ho jayega. Agar hum log kar paa rahe hain toh aap log bhi kar paoge.”
For students preparing for upcoming nursing examinations, she highlighted the importance of strong basics, MCQ practice, and revision.
Rima advised,
“Pehli cheez toh apna basic clear karna hai. Matlab jaise bhi ho basic clear karo. Jo bhi basic hai woh clear karna hai aur phir bahut zyada MCQ pe dhyaan do.”
She also warned against constantly studying new topics before the examination.
“Exam ke pehle woh nahi karna hai ki bahut saara naya cheez padho ya phir bahut saara naya kuch mil gaya toh rank shayad aage ho jayega.”
Her final advice focused on daily consistency.
“Patience rakho, ho jayega aur achhe se padho. Consistency bahut important hai. Consistent raho. Agar bura din bhi chal raha hai, us din bhi padho aur har roz padho, bas ho jayega.”
Rima De’s journey from starting her preparation in 2024 to securing AIR 110 in AIIMS NORCET 9 shows how analysing mistakes, revising repeatedly, practising MCQs and staying consistent can strengthen preparation over time. Her experience also highlights that an earlier setback or a delayed joining does not have to end the preparation journey.
