Preparing for NORCET requires a clear understanding of nursing concepts, regular practice, and consistent revision. For Sushmita, the journey began during her fourth year of college, when she started studying concepts in greater depth.
She joined PW’s Nursing Wallah Regular Batch during her internship but initially struggled to attend live classes and accumulated a significant backlog. After returning home in January, she focused on completing recorded lectures, revising theory, and practising MCQs. Her efforts helped her secure All India Rank 58 in NORCET 11 Mains 2026.
Sushmita began focusing on nursing concepts during her fourth year of college. She felt that college lectures sometimes covered topics only at a basic level, so she tried to study them in greater depth. During her internship, she started watching PW Lectures and joined the Nightingale Regular Batch to strengthen her preparation.
"Ma'am, journey toh meri fourth year se hi tough rahi hai. Fourth year se hi main concepts mein padhti thi. College mein concepts superficial lagte the, par main unko thoda-thoda karke deep padhne ki koshish karti thi."
Sushmita could not attend live classes regularly during her internship, so she relied on recorded lectures whenever possible. After completing college in December, she returned home and started preparing seriously in January. By then, she had accumulated a backlog of more than 200 classes.
She began clearing the backlog gradually, focusing on theory first and then moving towards MCQ practice.
"Internship ke time mein main PW ke videos dekhti thi. Mujhe lagta tha ki PW se coaching lene ke baad meri preparation thodi achhi hogi. Lekin us time main live classes zyada attend nahi kar paati thi, toh recorded classes dekh leti thi."
Community Health Nursing and Pharmacology were among the subjects Sushmita found difficult to recall. She also found Medical-Surgical Nursing challenging. Rather than avoiding these subjects, she revised them repeatedly and used faculty guidance to identify topics that needed more attention.
Previous year questions helped her understand which concepts to focus on, while repeated revision made difficult topics easier to recall.
"Pehle-pehle jab January mein start kiya tha, toh sab tough hi lagta tha. Mujhe Community aur Pharma zyada tough lagte the. Medical-Surgical Nursing bhi tough tha, par mujhe pata tha ki revision ke saath achha ho jayega."
Initially, Sushmita spent around 8–10 hours daily watching recorded lectures to clear her backlog. Since she could not practise many MCQs during this phase, she revised the theory she had completed. After the initial one to two months, she increased her focus on question practice and began dedicating around four hours to MCQs alongside her theory preparation.
"Pehle mera backlog poora jama ho gaya tha. Us time din mein 8 se 10 ghante recorded classes dekhni padti thi. Main MCQ practice nahi kar paayi, toh jo theory class se ho jaati thi, uska thoda-thoda revision kar leti thi."
She explained how she divided her study time between theory and questions.
"Main theory 8 to 10 hours kar leti thi aur 4 hours MCQ practice karti thi."
Sushmita started making handwritten notes during her internship. She preferred writing down concepts because the process helped her remember information and made revision easier. She also found handwritten notes useful for avoiding the distractions that could come with studying on a laptop or mobile phone.
"Main internship kar rahi thi tabhi se handwritten notes banati thi. Jab tum likhte ho, toh woh mind mein chhap jaata hai. Phir recall karna bahut easy ho jaata hai. Laptop ya mobile se padhne mein distractions bhi bahut aate hain."
Sushmita attempted one mock test every day and analysed her performance afterwards. She recorded her mistakes in a separate notebook and revised them regularly. Along with mock tests, she continued practising MCQs from other sources to strengthen her understanding of different topics.
"Main daily ek mock deti thi. Uske baad usko analyse karti thi. Jo mistakes hoti thi, unko mistake book mein likh leti thi aur phir unko bhi revise karti thi."
This approach gave her a regular way to revisit errors instead of simply moving on to the next test.
Sushmita advised future aspirants to study previous year questions in depth rather than memorising answers alone. She believes that understanding the concepts behind previous year questions is important because questions may test those topics at a deeper level.
"Previous year ke questions toh tumhe padhne hi padenge. Previous year ke topics ko in-depth padhna padega. Questions ke saath unke concepts bhi samajhne padenge. Previous year ke topics bilkul mat chhodna."
She also recommended daily MCQ practice, previous year questions, and mock tests for upcoming NORCET attempts.
"Daily MCQ karna padega aur PYQ karna padega. Mock test daily lagana padega."
For candidates who did not clear an earlier attempt, her approach offers a practical way forward: revise consistently, analyse mistakes, practise questions every day, and focus on understanding the concepts behind previous year questions.
