NSEA Application Form 2026

The NSEA application form 2026 can be submitted through the student's school or college. The Principal or Physics/Science teacher can enrol eligible students for the examination.

Students who face difficulty enrolling through their school may also have the option to complete the registration online through the IAPT website by paying the examination fee through the available payment method.

NSEA Registration Process 2026

Students can follow these steps for the NSEA registration process:

  1. Check the NSEA eligibility criteria before applying.

  2. Contact your school Principal or Physics/Science teacher for enrolment.

  3. If required, select a registered NSE centre.

  4. Fill in the required details in the NSEA application form.

  5. Select the preferred question paper language.

  6. Pay the prescribed examination fee.

NSEA Registration Fee 2026

Who Can Apply for NSEA 2026?

Students must satisfy the prescribed eligibility conditions to appear for NSEA 2026. The major requirements include:

  • The candidate must be eligible to hold an Indian passport.

  • The candidate's date of birth must be between July 1, 2007, and June 30, 2012, both dates inclusive.

  • The candidate must have been residing and studying in India since November 30, 2024, or earlier.

  • The candidate must be studying in the Indian school system.

  • The candidate must not have completed or be scheduled to complete the Class 12 board examination before November 30, 2026.

  • The candidate must not have started or plan to start studies at a university or equivalent institution by June 1, 2027.

  • The candidate must not be appearing for NSEJS 2026.

Students are responsible for ensuring that they meet the prescribed eligibility conditions. If a candidate is later found to be ineligible, their candidature may be cancelled without a refund of the examination fee.

What Happens After NSEA Registration?

NSEA is the first-stage examination in the Astronomy Olympiad selection process. Students who meet the required criteria based on their performance in NSEA may qualify for the next stage, the Indian National Astronomy Olympiad (INAO).

For Stage II, students are divided into two groups:

  • Group A: Students studying in Class 12 as of November 30, 2026

  • Group B: Students studying in Class 11 or lower as of November 30, 2026

The selection process considers factors such as the Minimum Admissible Score (MAS), Merit Index (MI), state/UT representation and other prescribed eligibility conditions.

Students shortlisted for INAO must complete the required registration on the HBCSE website when registration opens.
