SOF International Science Olympiad Exam Pattern

The SOF International Science Olympiad is conducted in offline mode and follows a multiple-choice question (MCQ) format. The exam evaluates students' understanding of scientific concepts, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Students are expected to apply their knowledge to answer concept-based questions.

SOF International Science Olympiad Syllabus

The SOF International Science Olympiad syllabus is based on the science topics taught in the current class. It checks the understanding of science concepts, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills. The syllabus is different for each class and covers topics from the school curriculum.

The Science Olympiad Foundation releases the syllabus separately for every class and exam level. Students should check the official syllabus before starting their preparation so they can study the correct topics.

SOF International Science Olympiad Eligibility Criteria

The SOF International Science Olympiad has separate eligibility rules for its two levels.

  1. Eligibility for Level 1

Students from Classes 1 to 12 can appear for the SOF International Science Olympiad, provided they are enrolled in a school recognised by SOF. Students can appear only for the Olympiad of their current class, and no additional eligibility conditions apply at this level.

  1. Eligibility for Level 2

Only students from Classes 3 to 12 are eligible to appear for the Level 2 exam. Students in Classes 1 and 2 do not have a Level 2 exam. To qualify for Level 2, a student must be among the top 5% of participants from their class in the Level 1 exam.

How to Participate in the SOF International Science Olympiad?

Students cannot apply for the SOF International Science Olympiad individually. They must register through their respective schools. Schools complete the registration process on behalf of students and submit the application forms at least 30 days before the exam date.

How to Prepare for SOF International Science Olympiad

An organised approach can help students perform well in the SOF International Science Olympiad:

  • Understand the exam pattern and syllabus thoroughly to cover all relevant topics.

  • Practice sample papers and previous year question papers to get familiar with the exam style.

  • Build a strong foundation in science basics through regular study.

SOF ISO Awards and Recognition

The SOF International Science Olympiad offers awards at the international, zonal, and school levels for the 2026–27 academic year. Students from Classes 1 to 12 can receive these awards based on their performance. The top three international rank holders are awarded cash prizes, medals, and certificates. Zonal and school-level winners are also recognised for their achievements.

Schools, principals, and teachers who support students are also recognised. They receive awards, scholarships, appreciation certificates, and gifts for encouraging student participation in the Olympiad.
