Several factors can directly or indirectly pull out big differences between candidates’ cut off scores:
Number of candidates participating in the examination: If there are more candidates appearing in the present years’ examination, then there are chances of getting high cut off marks due to enhanced competition.
Performance of candidates: If all the candidates have performed well enough to obtain the required qualifying marks, then the examination authority will have to raise high bar of cut off ranges.
NIRF Ranking of Colleges: Colleges with high NIRF rankings may release their own cut off scores, generally higher than others.
Caste or category of the participants: Cut off mark ranges can be broad and differ with different categories. Most examination authorities follow GOI’s caste based reservation policies. So, there can be different cut off marks with students of different categories/caste.
