Figma Now Lets You Turn Existing Designs Into New Content With AI

Figma's AI-powered content creation capabilities can help designers reuse existing design assets and create new visual content more efficiently. By building on established layouts and design systems, these tools may reduce repetitive work and support faster creative iterations.
Figma Now

Figma has introduced Figma node, allowing existing Figma designs to be connected to Figma Weave workflows to create new on-brand content.

Figma is making it easier to reuse existing designs instead of rebuilding every new creative asset from scratch. With its latest Figma Weave update, users can connect designs they have already created in Figma Design to Weave workflows and use them as inputs for new content.

The update introduces Figma node, which lets users bring a Figma frame into a Weave workflow, choose which text and image layers can change, and keep the original fonts, layout and styling intact. Figma says the feature can be used to create campaign variations, localised assets, new visuals and videos at scale.

Figma Can Now Bring Existing Designs Into Weave Workflows

The main change is the connection between Figma Design and Figma Weave.

“Users can copy a frame from Figma Design and paste it into a Weave workflow, where it becomes a Figma node.”

The existing frame can then be connected to other parts of the workflow. Instead of treating a finished design as the end of the creative process, users can use it as a starting point for producing new content.

This makes the update particularly relevant to AI-assisted design workflows, where existing creative work can be adapted with AI while important design decisions remain intact.

Designers Can Choose Which Parts of a Design Change

Figma node gives users control over which parts of an existing design can be modified. Text and image layers can be selected as workflow inputs, while the original fonts, layout and styling remain intact.

For example, a campaign frame could keep its typography, positioning and overall visual treatment while the headline, product image or another selected element is changed for a new version.

“Choose what can change while keeping the original fonts, layout, and styling intact.”

This approach can reduce repetitive design work when teams need multiple versions of the same creative asset.

One Existing Design Can Now Lead to Multiple Content Variations

Figma’s update is designed to help teams get more value from the creative work they have already created. Instead of starting from scratch, existing designs can now be adapted into different content formats and variations.

Figma says,

“users can use existing Figma designs and brand materials to create campaign variations, localised assets, new visuals and videos at scale.”

For marketing and creative teams, this means one approved visual direction can become the base for different messages, audiences or content formats without recreating the design each time.

This also highlights how AI-powered content workflows can help marketers create and adapt content for different audiences and platforms.

Figma Weave Can Also Turn Existing Designs Into Video Content

The new workflow is not limited to static design variations.

Figma says,

“existing designs can also be used to create videos through Weave workflows”

This gives teams another way to extend an existing creative asset. A design created for a campaign, for example, can become a starting point for a video rather than requiring a completely separate production process.

For teams exploring AI video creation, the update shows how existing visual assets can become inputs for a wider content-production workflow.

Connected Designs Can Stay Synced With Figma

Figma is also keeping the original design connected to the assets created from it. Changes made to the original Figma design can be brought into Weave so connected assets can stay up to date.

This is useful when a brand element, layout or other part of the source design changes after new content has already been created. Teams can continue working from the original design instead of maintaining completely separate versions.

“Bring changes from the original Figma design into Weave to keep every connected asset up to date.”

What Figma’s Update Means for AI-Powered Content Creation?

The latest update changes how existing creative work can be used. Instead of asking AI to generate every asset from a blank starting point, teams can now bring an existing design into an AI workflow and decide which elements should change.

“The update allows existing designs to become starting points for creating new content, rather than assets that have to be recreated from scratch.”

For campaign teams, this can be useful when the same creative direction needs to be adapted across different audiences, messages and content formats. The original design can provide the visual foundation, while selected elements can be changed to create new versions.

This also shows a shift towards AI-assisted content workflows, where AI works with existing creative assets instead of replacing the design process altogether.
