The Assistant Workshop (Mechanical or Engineering) is responsible for the upkeep of the heartbeat of the railways: the Coaches and Wagons.
Maintenance: Assistant Workshop assists the Technicians and Junior Engineers (JE) in the preventive and breakdown maintenance of rolling stock.
Specialised Shops: They may be assigned to the Bogie Shop (wheel and axle assembly), Shell Shop, or Furnishing Shop (interior repairs).
Tools & Equipment: Ensuring the availability and cleaning of technical tools used in the repair process.
Safety Checks: Verifying that the welding, painting, and fitting work meets Railway safety standards.
