RRB Technician Post Preference: What Is EMU, TRS, TRD

While filling out the RRB Technician application form, many candidates come across terms like EMU, TRS, and TRD and are unsure which posts to choose. Along with understanding these departments, candidates must also check the required medical standards, vision criteria, educational qualifications, and job responsibilities before locking their preferences.

Selecting the right RRB Technician post preference is important because your choice determines not only your job role but also whether you meet the required medical standards during the recruitment process. Choosing a post without checking the eligibility criteria may lead to disqualification during the medical examination, even if you qualify for the CBT.

Medical Standards for RRB Technician Posts

Medical fitness is one of the most important eligibility conditions for RRB Technician recruitment. Different posts require different medical standards, mainly based on vision requirements.

Candidates should carefully check the required medical standard before selecting their post preferences.

Why Medical Standards Matter

Clearing the CBT alone does not guarantee selection. Candidates must also qualify for the prescribed medical examination.

For example, if a post requires B1 medical standards but your eyesight only meets the C1 standard, your candidature may be rejected during the medical test.

Before submitting the application, candidates should get their eyesight checked by an eye specialist to understand whether they fall under A3, B1, B2, or C1 medical standards.

Understanding Vision Standards

The RRB medical examination mainly checks distance vision, near vision, colour vision, binocular vision, and night vision depending on the post.

What Does 6/6 Vision Mean?

A candidate with 6/6 vision can clearly see an object from 6 metres that a person with normal eyesight can also see from the same distance. It is considered normal vision.

What Does 6/9 Vision Mean?

A person with 6/9 vision must stand 6 metres away to see an object clearly that someone with normal vision can see from 9 metres away.

What Does 6/12 Vision Mean?

A person with 6/12 vision needs to be 6 metres away to see an object that a person with normal eyesight can clearly see from 12 metres.

A3 Medical Standard

The A3 medical standard has the strictest vision requirements among Technician Grade III posts.

A3 Vision Requirements

  • Distance Vision: 6/9, 6/9 (with or without glasses)

  • Near Vision: 0.6, 0.6 (with or without glasses)

  • Colour Vision Test

  • Binocular Vision Test

  • Night Vision Test

  • Mesopic Vision Test

Candidates with colour blindness or weaker eyesight should avoid selecting posts requiring the A3 medical standard.

Comparison of Medical Standards

Before selecting your RRB Technician post preferences, it is important to understand the medical standards prescribed for different posts.

These standards mainly assess a candidate's vision, including distance vision, near vision, colour vision, binocular vision, and night vision. Each medical category has different requirements, and candidates must meet the prescribed standard for the post they choose.

RRB Technician Post Preference FAQs

What are the primary medical standards required for RRB Technician posts, particularly concerning vision?

RRB Technician posts mandate specific medical standards, primarily vision tests. Technician Grade I requires B1, Technician Grade III Track Machine needs A3, and Technician Grade III Crane Driver requires B2. Most other Grade III posts need B1, with some requiring C1 medical standards.

Why is it important to consult an eye specialist before completing the RRB Technician application form?

Consulting an eye specialist is strongly advised to accurately determine your personal medical vision standard (A3, B1, B2, or C1) before completing the application form. This ensures your visual acuity matches the required standard for preferred posts, preventing disqualification even after clearing the examination.

How are visual acuity ratings like 6/6, 6/9, and 6/12 interpreted in the context of vision tests?

6/6 vision is normal visual acuity, meaning one sees clearly at 6 meters what a person with normal vision sees at 6 meters. 6/9 vision means one must be 6 meters away to see an object clearly that a person with normal vision could see from 9 meters. Similarly, 6/12 vision implies seeing clearly at 6 meters what a normal vision person sees at 12 meters.

Which medical standards are recommended for candidates with weaker eyesight or known color vision deficiencies?

Candidates with weaker eyesight or known color vision deficiencies should prioritize B2 and C1 category posts. These categories generally have less strict vision requirements and often exclude color vision tests, offering a higher chance of eligibility due to their less stringent criteria.
