RRC CR Apprentice Eligibility 2026 defines the essential requirements that candidates must meet to apply for apprenticeship training under Central Railway. Released under Notification No. RRC/CR/AA/2025/Part-II, this recruitment offers apprenticeship opportunities across clusters such as Mumbai, Bhusawal, Pune, and Solapur.
To be eligible, applicants must satisfy specific conditions related to age limit, educational qualification, and ITI certification. Since the selection is purely merit-based, understanding the eligibility criteria is the first and most important step for candidates aiming to secure an apprenticeship slot in Indian Railways.
To fulfil the RRC Central Railway apprentice eligibility criteria, applicants must fall within a specific age window. Meeting the prescribed age criteria is essential for your application to be considered during the shortlisting process.
Minimum Age: Candidates must be at least 15 years of age.
Maximum Age: Candidates must not have completed 24 years of age.
Crucial Cut-off Date: The age limit is calculated precisely as of March 10, 2026.
The Central Railway provides upper age relaxations to reserved categories, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), and Ex-Servicemen:
SC / ST Candidates: Relaxed by 5 years (Maximum age up to 29 years)
OBC Candidates: Relaxed by 3 years (Maximum age up to 27 years)
PwBD Candidates: Relaxed by 10 years
Ex-Servicemen: The upper age limit is relaxed by the length of service rendered in the Defence Forces, plus an additional three years (subject to a maximum total relaxation of 10 years), provided the candidate has completed at least six months of continuous service.

The technical nature of an apprenticeship requires solid foundational knowledge. The mandatory RRC CR Apprentice educational qualification is divided into two parts: academic and technical.
Candidates must have passed the 10th class examination or its equivalent (under the 10+2 examination system) from a recognised Board.
A minimum of 50% marks in aggregate is mandatory.
Note on calculation: The RRC calculates the 10th-grade percentage using the marks obtained across all subjects. The aggregate percentage is calculated using marks obtained in all subjects. "Best of five" or selective subject combinations are not considered.
Candidates must possess a National Trade Certificate (NTC) in the designated trade.
Candidates must possess either a final or provisional National Trade Certificate (NTC) issued by NCVT or SCVT in the relevant trade.
Important Exclusion: Candidates holding an Engineering Diploma or Degree are not eligible under this apprenticeship notification, as their training is governed under a separate apprenticeship framework.
The eligibility criteria also dictate that your technical training must match a specific slot available in one of the designated clusters. Candidates can only apply for one cluster (such as Mumbai, Bhusawal, Pune, or Solapur) and must choose a trade that corresponds directly with their ITI certification.
Some of the notified trades in the supplementary recruitment include:
Stenographer (Shorthand English or Hindi)
Fitter (Engineering)
Mason
Mechanic (Refrigeration and AC)
Meeting the RRC CR Apprentice Eligibility standards doesn't guarantee selection—it qualifies you to enter the competitive merit pool.
The selection process is entirely data-driven:
Simple Average Formula: The RRC takes the percentage of marks obtained in your Matriculation/10th class and adds it to the percentage of marks obtained in your ITI trade program. The average of the Class 10 and ITI percentages is calculated to prepare the merit list.
Tie-Breaking Rules: If two or more candidates end up with the exact same average score, Preference is given to the older candidate. If the birth dates match as well, the candidate who cleared their matriculation exam earliest gets the higher rank.
There is no separate entrance examination or interview process; selection depends completely on your academic and technical performance.
