CBSE Class 7 English Honeycomb Chapter 2 Notes A Gift of Chappals

Chapter 2 of the CBSE Class 7 English Honeycomb textbook, titled "A Gift of Chappals," is a heartwarming story that emphasizes kindness, empathy, and the joy of helping others.

The story revolves around Mridu, a young girl who visits her aunt, Rukku Manni’s house in Chennai, where she meets her cousins Lalli, Ravi, and Meena. They discover a small kitten hidden in a torn football and named it Mahendravarma Pallava Poonai (M.P. Poonai). Ravi, with great enthusiasm, shares that the kitten is a descendant of ancient cats, linking it to both historical figures and Egyptian mythology.

As the children are busy with the kitten, a beggar, who has been visiting their house regularly, asks for help. He has large blisters on his feet and cannot afford a pair of chappals. Mridu suggests that they give him a pair of old chappals, which they find lying around. Ravi, seeing this as an opportunity to help, gives the beggar the chappals, and he blesses them as he leaves.

However, the music teacher, who was teaching Lalli violin, later finds his chappals missing. It turns out that the children had unknowingly given the music teacher’s chappals to the beggar. When Rukku Manni learns of this, she replaces the missing chappals with Gopu Mama’s new pair for the music teacher. The story concludes with Rukku Manni laughing at the situation, thinking about how to explain it to Gopu Mama.
