CBSE Class 7 English Poorvi My Brother’s Great Invention Notes

The story is narrated by Anita, a 14-year-old girl, about her eccentric and imaginative younger brother Anand, who believes he’s a scientist. Anand is always building strange inventions that either fail or cause chaos.

The story begins with one of Anand’s failed inventions: a homemade burglar alarm involving a water bag, which soaks their father instead of catching a thief. Though Anita warns him that it might not work, Anand is full of confidence. After this incident, Anand lies low for a while.

However, things spiral again after Anand watches the film Back to the Future, which inspires him to build a time machine in his room. His parents, wary of his “inventions,” warn him not to use it while they are away for a wedding. Anand reluctantly agrees.

But that night, when Anita and Anand are alone at home, they hear suspicious noises. A thief, Boppa, who had recently started working in their neighbourhood, breaks in. Anand tricks him into entering his own room, where the time machine is set up. Suddenly, loud noises, flashing lights, and strange sounds fill the air.

By the time neighbours arrive and rescue the children, Boppa has mysteriously disappeared, leaving behind only his green scarf. Though no one else believes it, Anand insists that his time machine actually worked and that the thief has been transported to the past.

The story ends with Anand proudly starting work on a new invention, a telephone to contact aliens!
