The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), in collaboration with the Directorate of Income Tax, has launched a creative and educational initiative. It will make financial awareness fun for children. Under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign, an eight-part comic series featuring beloved cartoon duo Motu Patlu has been introduced to schools across India. The initiative, titled Motu Patlu and Tax Pari, aims to simplify the concept of income tax. It will also develop civic responsibility among young learners. Students will understand importance of paying taxes and contributing to the nation’s growth through this initiative.
The comic series has been designed to make tax education engaging, storytelling, using humor, and relatable characters. Children can follow Motu and Patlu as they embark on adventures that explain how taxes help build roads, hospitals, and other facilities. Each comic carries a message about honesty, financial discipline, and the role of taxpayers in national development.
The Income Tax Department Comic Book Series is a publication of the Directorate of Public Relations, Publication & Publicity under the Directorate of Income Tax. This initiative has been launched with the aim of promoting tax literacy and financial awareness among youth. By using popular characters like Motu Patlu, the icons of humor and friendship, the series successfully bridges the gap between entertainment and education.
Each comic focuses on a specific theme, such as the benefits of paying taxes, the purpose of a PAN card, and the importance of following laws. For instance, in Motu Patlu & Tax Pari, a magical character named Tax Pari explains to Motu and Patlu how taxes collected from citizens are used for public welfare. The story presents tax-paying as a noble and necessary act that supports the entire nation.
Financial literacy is not taken seriously at the school level, but this type of initiative is changing this scenario. The Motu Patlu comics:
It will educate students about intricate financial concepts using understandable narratives.
It will promote honesty, integrity, and awareness of civic duties.
The initiative will make children realize that responsible citizens can help their country prosper.
It will expose simple financial concepts to people from an early age.
By presenting these values in an age-appropriate manner, the CBSE aims to lay the foundation for responsible and informed future citizens.
