The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released a key notice for the 2026 Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations, confirming the allocation of theory, practical, project and internal assessment marks for each subject. All information has been shared through a circular posted on the official website, cbse.gov.in.
As per the notification, Practical Examinations, Project Assessments and Internal Assessments for both classes will take place from January 1 to February 14, 2026. Schools have been told to adhere to the schedule strictly to prevent any difficulties for students later.
The CBSE pointed out in the notice that schools frequently make mistakes while uploading marks for Practical Examinations, Project Assessments and Internal Assessments. The board has recorded such issues in earlier years and has advised schools to be careful during the uploading process. It has also made it clear that correction requests will not be accepted if the mistake arises from carelessness.
The circular includes an annexure listing details for every subject, such as:
Class
Subject code
Subject name
Maximum marks for the Theory Examination
Maximum marks for the Practical Examination
Maximum marks for the Project Assessment
Maximum marks for Internal Assessment
Whether an external examiner is appointed
Whether the board supplies the practical answer book

The circular confirms that each subject has a total of 100 marks, distributed among theory, practical, project and internal assessment components, depending on the subject requirements. Schools have been instructed to go through the annexure carefully before starting the assessments.
The board has also explained the format of the answer book for Theory Examinations, including the number of pages. This clarification, CBSE stated, is intended to help schools prepare beforehand and avoid logistical problems during the exams.
The notice ends by directing all schools to complete Practical Examinations, Project Assessments and Internal Assessments within the specified timeframe and as per the issued guidelines. The CBSE has underlined that full compliance is essential for the proper conduct of the 2026 board examinations. Students and teachers can view the complete subject-wise marks distribution on the official CBSE website.
