ICSE Class 10 Exam Pattern 2023-24

The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) updates the ICSE Class 10 Exam Pattern on its official website, typically maintaining consistency from previous years. Any changes to the pattern will be updated in this article. Currently, subjects are categorized into three groups: Group 1 comprises compulsory subjects, while Group 2 and Group 3 offer optional subjects.

Group 1 mandates 4 compulsory subjects, while candidates opting for Group 2 need to choose two subjects from a selection of 7. In Group 3, candidates have a choice among 13 optional subjects, requiring selection of just one.

All candidates appearing for the CISCE Board 10th exams in 2024 must select a minimum of six subjects. The subjects are grouped as follows:

Group I (Compulsory): Internal examinations account for 80% of the marks, while 20% is allocated for internal assessment. Subjects in Group 1 include:

• English
• A second language
• History, Civics, and Geography

Group II: Students must choose a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 3 subjects from this group. Group 2 comprises:

• Mathematics
• Science (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology)
• Economics
• Commercial Studies
• A Modern Foreign Language
• A Classical Language
• Environmental Science

ICSE Class 10 Syllabus 2023-24

Group III: One subject must be chosen from this group. The marking scheme for the subject from Group 3 involves a 50% external paper and 50% internal assessment. Subjects in Group 3 are:

• Cookery
• Fashion Designing

• Technical Drawing Applications
• Environmental Applications
• A Modern Foreign Language

Combinations not permitted for the ICSE Examination include:

• Sanskrit as a Second Language (Group I) and Sanskrit as a Classical Language (Group II).
• Economics (Group II) and Economic Applications (Group III).
• Commercial Studies (Group II) and Commercial Applications (Group III).
• Environmental Science (Group II) and Environmental Applications (Group III).

Candidates opting for a Modern Foreign Language in any of the three groups cannot choose the same language in the other two groups.
