What if You Fail In One Subject ICSE Class 10

ICSE has set the rules and regulations for ICSE Class 10 passing criteria. Students need to meet the minimum marks requirements to pass the 10th ICSE board examination. They need to score an aggregate of 35 marks in all subjects. The overall minimum passing marks in the ICSE board class 10 exam is 33%. The students must qualify for the English subject examination. Any student is unable to pass in one subject in the 10th board examination. In that case, the student needs to appear for the compartment exam. It is organised after the announcement of the Class 10 board exam.

Passing Rules of ICSE

A student must pass in at least five subjects. These five subjects must include English. English is a compulsory subject. If a student passes in five subjects but fails in one elective or secondary subject.  The mark sheet will show a "Pass Certificate Awarded" status. However, if a student fails in English, they cannot be declared as passed.

ICSE Board Compartment Exams

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) provides a second chance to students through something called a Compartment Examination. This is a special test held for students who have failed in only one subject but have passed in English and three other subjects.

The Compartment Exam takes place a few months after the main results are declared. This allows the student to study the same syllabus again and improve their score. If the student passes this exam, the board issues a new mark sheet.

Rechecking and Revaluation

Sometimes, a student might feel that they performed well, but the marks do not reflect their hard work. In such cases, there is an option to apply for "Recheck." During a recheck, an official will look at the answer script again to ensure that all answers are marked and that the total of the marks is correct.

If there was a calculation error, the marks will be updated. This could change a failing grade into a passing grade. It is important to remember that there is a small fee for this process, and it must be done within the time limit set by the board.

Improvement Examinations

If a student passes the overall exam but is unhappy with a low score in one specific subject, they can appear for an Improvement Exam. It is different from a Compartment Exam. The Compartment Exam is for those who failed, and the Improvement Exam is for those who want to get better marks.

Planning for the Next Step

Failing in a subject is often a sign that the study method needs to change. Instead of feeling sad, the student should look at the weak areas. Was the time management poor? Was the subject too difficult to understand? Seeking help from teachers or using extra study materials can make a big difference.

Many schools allow students to attend Class 11 provisionally while they prepare for the Compartment Exam. This keeps the student in the habit of studying and prevents them from feeling left behind by their friends.

Importance of Mental Health

Parents and teachers play a big role when a student fails. It is important to stay calm and supportive. Pressure and scolding often make the situation worse. Class 10 is an important milestone, but it is just one part of life. Many successful people have faced failures in school. The goal should be to learn from the mistake and work harder the next time.
